The Slam/ BDM scene in Indonesia and Asia has always really appealed to me, so much so that I often keep an eye open for any festivals over there to visit and watch some top quality Death Metal. Maybe one day I’ll make the trip. This review isn’t about me though, no, this is about Perveration, a two piece Indonesian Slamming Brutal Death force signed to none other than the mighty Comatose Music. Their debut Perversion In Manifest Disease (always love the titles of stuff from Asian Slam bands) somewhat passed me by sadly, but I’m now ready to board the wagon of the grotesque with the bands second full length Putrefaction Of Infinite Apogee.

Without wasting a single second on samples or build up Bacterium Decomposition crashes in. Ultra guttural vocals and a guitar and bass tone that quite frankly is earth shaking, major chugging vibes. Consuming Maggots Seeds comes in next, bringing with it a healthy dose of pinch harmonics and savage Slams. This is an album to really throw back a lot of Slam fanatics like myself. The scene is becoming really healthy again after the darker days of incessant Deathcore and Perveration are a band who know exactly what they’re doing. Interestingly nothing is so overboard that it appears comedic either which I appreciate. I’m all for the fun and silliness in Slam but I also just love the music and when bands take their songwriting craft seriously it really shows. Festering Throat shows the bands true nature of sheer barbarity mixed with powerful musicianship, big Slams and BDM Grind speed. Don’t come here expecting Tech mind you, this is all about caveman Slam destruction, but it’s done very well. Whilst not really a musical note I have to mention that the sample at the start of Damaging Excrement is genuinely gross, well played.

By the time we get into the second half of the album it’s very clear what Perveration has to offer. It isn’t exactly new or innovative, but it is solid. I will also note that with the album only being around thirty minutes it also stops the record from becoming stale as can sometimes be the case with this brand of more straightforward BDM. Infernal Apogee it has to be said does bring the occasional interesting riff to the table also, maybe making it one of the strongest tracks on the album. Necrocannibalism has a bit of more interesting riffage going for it as well, I feel like this could have been played with more throughout the album, especially in the first half, but generally it’s not a huge complaint. Chaotic Spreading (which sounds like what happens when buttering your bread goes wrong) is a perfect mix of the first and second halves of this release, huge Slams, decent riffs, interesting and constantly thundering with hard hitting drums. There really isn’t much more to add about the rest of the release, much of the same, just good hearty Slam.

Honestly that about sums it up, is this reinventing the wheel? No, but it is holding the banner for the Slam police highly for all to see. This honestly feels exactly like a record I would listen to in 09 and that’s pretty big praise already. Not to mention I gave them a follow on Spotify during this review, another note of praise from myself. If you’ve maybe never listened to Slam before then this is actually a great representation of the genre and its roots, of course I would suggest you also go and listen to Devourment and Waking The Cadaver but for the more underground experience Perveration have got you covered.
