The first visit of “Akhlys” to Thessaloniki was definitely a very big surprise. It became even more unique when Nihilism were announced to open the concert. Without a doubt “Akhlys” released one of the darkest and horrifying albums of the last years. I was curious to see if Melinoë would bring out the same feelings on stage.

As for Nihilism, we’re talking about one of the emerging Greek black metal bands, who have gone through several challenges in recent years with many changes in the band’s line-up. The last time I got to see them was in 2019. Since then, they have released an amazing 2nd album during the Covid period, as they are close to releasing a 3rd.

This night was something that a listener of avant-garde Black Metal should not miss. Nihilism took the stage around 9:30. In their own unique atmosphere they managed to keep their character alive with great success.

Their performance was 100% solid. 2 great musicians who through the darkness and smoke touched every listener in the audience. They are without a doubt a band that anyone who is into black metal should listen to.

After a short break it was time for Akhlys. Here was the moment of dilemma, whether they would express the terror of their records on stage. Well, not only did they succeed, but their whole stage presence was much more intense than their records. Throughout the set you could feel the absolute chaos from their music.

The riffs couldn’t help but affect you psychologically. Definitely Talking about a band that will leave their mark on the stage. From the beginning to the end, you felt part of a very bad nightmare, which even the most theatrical ritualistic band would not succeed in delivering such atmosphere and energy to the audience.

It was one of the best concerts of the genre I’ve seen and I’m more than glad that it was in my city.
