This album by Belarusian death grinders Grimentity has been out since February 2022, so quite why it has taken so long to hit the players of Ave Noctum is puzzling considering how bloody good it is too.
Predominantly grindcore based this debut album follows on from three demos and a split whose songs have ended up on the album though I’m sure they’ve probably been re-recorded. This is a sonic bombardment the moment ‘Searching The Perfect Shade’ kicks off once the sample piece, taken from the TV show Hannibal I think, completes. The monstrously dense production gives the release a slight goregrind toning as the opener crunches into full blast beat grinding mayhem but tempered by the ability to draw on other genres as the tempo deviations prove. It is extremely catchy too, that goregrinding mayhem rears up continuously but integrated within the songs is their ability to insert hardcore touches.
‘The Power Of Broken’ leaves no prisoners, its blasting frenzy backed by harsh ferocious snarling vocals coupled to the much deeper tones that alternate throughout. What really kicks you in groin is this bands innate sense of brutalising groove usually courtesy of some death metal like double kick that I really liked on this release. Slower and reeking of goregrind is ‘Blinded By The Majesty Of Own Mind’ as acts like Squash Bowels, Cliteater rear up whereas the blasting forays will have Nasum fans nodding their head in approval.
I loved the very short fade-in to ‘Healing With Fury’, its brevity leads into full bludgeoning with a catchy riff and intense blast workouts that link nicely with ‘Psilocybin Recombination’ and ‘Faith Imitation’ that fans of Pig Destroyer will pick up on. As you’d expect the songs are short and the latter tune offers some excellent bass riffing to open it as the band switches to death metal, though it is ridiculously dense in style. ‘A Sense Of The Breath Of A Flame’ has a drum opening before the utter annihilating speed that ensues, its intensity belies its catchy styling as I felt the tune had some Guineapig like riffing to it in places but with insane speed added.
You can quickly run out of superlatives when describing grind albums and as the release hits its last four tunes ‘Crimson Tones Dreams’ seems to change tack slightly, being much slower with an abrasive riff that channels down a buzzing rhythm before returning to a chaotic obliteration on ‘Individual Perception Of Psychoanalysis’ which I assume links with the meaning of the album title (I believe DSM-5 is what is used for the classification of mental disorders in the USA). The songs slower approach allows the band to wield some effective hooks and guitar work before ‘The Supreme Form of Evolution’ returns to devastating grind. The song quickly swaps out the grind for a more death metal styling even if only briefly as the manic vocals offer schizoid insanity before the release closers with the title track. The closer has a hardcore posture with tons of melody on the riff as the song also adds some deathly vibes to the riffing.
A fine mauling of grindcore mayhem from Grimentity, one to satisfy the goregrinders, the pure grindcore fans and even those who like deathgrind as each track is a punishing demolition.
