Since 2003 a sickening plague has been sweeping across Europe, a plague hailing from Poznan in Poland. And that pestilential entity is heathen Black Metal horde Mordhell, who towards the end of last year shat out their fourth full length album ‘Satanic Wombs’ on CD through Fallen Temple.

This putrid bout of gnarly simplistic riffs, catchy drum tones and abrasive vocal grunts consists of five short tracks of their own squalor and filth, followed by three cover tracks that take in Darkthrone, Burzum and Bathory. I’ll let you have a listen for yourself to see which tracks they chose to breathe fetid new life into!

In truth ‘Satanic Wombs’ is as enjoyable as it is simple. Raw tones razors edge riffs are a given, as are straight to the point drum tones that batter and clatter along at their own pace, whilst vocalist Grimmessiah hammers out sleazy filth drenched words to add to the chaos and grime that is the rest of the album.

‘Satanic Wombs’ is a noxious slab of toxic Black Metal with a pronounced Punk influence; short, sharp riffs and short sharp tracks come to that. (Apart from the Darkthrone and Burzum covers which take up half the release but who the hell is complaining about that?) This is great fun!
