I am sure most of us have labels that we follow or have liked over the years, whether it is because of their eclectic nature, diversity, quality or in the case of US label Comatose Music their outright pulverising roster. For some just being on Comatose is enough for you to click add to basket and pay or pre-order this album before even reading reviews. Indeed since the labels inception over two decades ago it has been renowned for filling its ranks with polysyllabic bands for the most part and this latest addition to their ranks is no different as they hit us with their third album death metal demolition of the highest order.

I must admit I was expecting some sort of technical widdle fest from the duo of Jordan Varela (guitars, bass and drums) and Jay Barnes (vocals), but instead was treated to some 90s death metal with a modernised production stance but extremely brutal throughout the eight tracks on offer. There is a massive amount of groove on this album, you cannot help be carried along with it and whilst a lot of the songs have an overt similarity I couldn’t care less about that when the material is this strong.

Opening salvo is ‘Insurrection Of The Diabolical’ where battle noises of swords set the theme of samurai warriors off for the album as a whole, before the deathly destruction crashes in like a tsunami. The guttural vocals have clarity which I especially liked, not the toilet flushing variety you often hear in brutal death metal these days as ‘Breaching The Gates Of Tranquillity’ follows. There is a beastly ripping gore to this track that reminded me of Morbid Angel minus the scorching lead work though there is plenty of fret work so don’t get me wrong, just not the 1000mph that Trey used to do back in the 90s. That groove rears up nicely here and had me illegibly scribbling down Jungle Rot but if I am truly honest this album reeks of Deicide throughout its duration.

With some wind effects and Oriental instrumentation ‘Insidious Spiritual Incarceration’ is up next and here we get the band unleashing some double bass carnage just to give those neck muscles a workout, as the Deicide touches even reflect in the vocal inflections as the tempo hits blast beat velocity. I did enjoy ‘Irrevocable Siege Of The Abominable’, love these titles, as it blasts in with murderous glee offering more kick drum mania amidst the horrifying vocals and dense riffing ensuring the song has a catchiness that will clutch you by the throat never to let go.

More groove follows on ‘Fragmenting The Profane’ as again, that Deicide infestation is never too far away and leans heavily towards the early 90s when the Floridian death metal sound was craved so much. Closing the album is the excellent title track as a sample of Oriental sounds and someone being tortured, I’m guessing, leads into more of what you expect. The blasts beat is a little softer hear, slightly less pronounced as the song swings into a groove niche with the monstrous vocal tone.
