Quite a few years back I never really registered Grind, or at least subgenres of Grind like Porno, Gore and Noise as music I would enjoy. I don’t really know why, I mean I loved the comedy element of Slam, I enjoyed early Carcass, Napalm Death, Rotten Sound and more, so why didn’t I respect the sillier side of the Grind? I think I almost saw it as Slam that isn’t as fun, and then I started seeing a few Grind acts live and I was hooked. From this point on I’ve gone on to fall in love with Gutalax, Rectal Smegma, Spasm, Alien Fucker and more, bring on the Grind!

Today that Grind comes from the totally insane Gronibard. These traditionally humorous, filth infused French Grind addicts certainly know what their product is and how to push it out to the masses. Having formed back in 1998 the band have seemingly made quite the name for themselves and are now signed to Season Of Mist for their third full length release. That release is none other than Regarde Les Hommes Sucer, but is it as fun as you might expect?

Kicking things off with a bit of a Grind sample is Fast Gays Of Humanity a play on the legendary Goregrind band of course. We’re then launched into full on silly guttural vocals in the style of the likes of Gut and Rompeprop, total OEF fuel and madness with plenty of groove and nastiness. L’enfer Des Zombites and Mon Siamois Maléfique add additional mad, almost clean vocals into the mix and really amp up the whole party vibe of this totally crazy release. The longest song on the album Finger In Anus brings all the elements together for a total Grind gathering of stupidity and madness. It’s the kind of music you can’t really explain to people who have no concept of alternative sub culture. There are also a couple of interludes in this release that are totally unnecessary, a bit of fun perhaps but basically (like most interludes) pointless. Rounding off he first half is Sperm Smoker which has an almost Melt-Banana quality to it, noisy, reckless and free flowing.

By the time we get to Le Monstre Des Zizis is basically feels like all bases are covered and the album simply can’t get any weirder. It’s kind of true but the surprises do keep on flying in. Basically I would say this is the perfect album to enjoy live or with friends. Sitting and reviewing it solo in a ‘serious’ context kind of loses the ethos of what it’s really all about. It’s certainly not a dull listen but much like a lot of this more ridiculous Grind it warrants a certain setting, and that setting is party time. There isn’t much more to add really, I would simply say give it a listen, find out it’s great fun and then get on down to a show or festival.

So yeah, it’s a good fun album, and a sound which I would undoubtedly go mental for live. One thing I’ve learnt about Grind is just have fun with it. At the root of it all I’ve always loved the shock aspect of Alternative music and this is just another step. Stop taking yourself so damn seriously and enjoy those guttural vocals.
