Yep, still on death metal duties here. Well, this appealed at first sight as I do like some filthy, muck caked rotting brutal death particularly when it’s all about innards becoming outards and solids becoming squelchies.

So, ta da! Bristolians Cryptworm without dull intro or preamble open up their fetid guts and take a sudden loose, violent spew with ‘Disgorged Chunks Of Life’. Vocals gurgle away in the background, the bass flaps about like rotting skin in a river of puke and the guitars grind and do downtuned riffs and squirley runs and the drums shockingly are not just relentless but imaginative and change pace at the flick of something ghastly from wading through shit crawl to ripping flesh apart gallop.

The only problem with this is…um…well what else can I say. It is relentless for its perfect thirty odd minute running length. Eight tracks of gurgling, wallowing, tearing death metal with the odd moment of actual groove going on in most of them. Best taken as a whole rather than individual tracks for me, but that is not a criticism when you get lost in the stinking whorl of ‘Reduced To Liquified Mass’ and some weird…undertow that drags you round and round like a turd down a filthy toilet bowl or the screech of parts of ‘Septic Phlegm Asphixia’

It’s confident, sick, disturbingly compelling and with enough tempo changes and writing talent to make it a grand cesspool to wallow in. It doesn’t reinvent the rotting corpse, it doesn’t profess delicate themes or introspection. It simply is what it fully intends to be. Horrible.

I don’t always listen to rotting, diseased, stinking death metal. But when I do Cryptworm are certainly one of the pits I will wallow in.
