This 6-track split EP has three tracks by German quartet Imparity & three by Brazilian duo Les Mémoires Fall. Both bands have a touch of doom to their sound, along with more than a hint of gothic overtones owing to the female vocals.

Imparity start us off with the slow but heavyish “Hate In The Name Of God”, which also includes guest vocals by Moritz Gutscher to add a death growl to Eva’s remarkably high but slow singing, which goes well with Markus’s guitar riffs over Stefan’s drumming & Greg’s bass.

Next up is the 2021 version of “Trapped In Wealth”, where the sound is a lot sharper on the guitar, but that could be the way the drums cut through to punctuate the ending of the riffs, while the vocals have a dreamy drawn-out quality by the way the lyrics are dragged out to hold notes for extended counts.

Title track “Dying Dreams” has a heavier feel to the fuzzy guitars, with the bass playing some intricate runs in the background as a lot of cymbal brushing sings behind it all. The vocals are once again ethereal & eerily haunting, which I’m certain is the effect they are going for, even her death vocals are a little unnerving.

Bassist/Vocalist Emerson Mördien & guitarist Alessandro “Grou” are joined by female vocalist Cimone Tavares on Les Mémoires Fall first track “Tears”, where her beautiful clean vocals work well over the gentle doomy groove that maintains a laconic pace throughout its 7-minute meander with as lengthy leads.

Naimi Stephanie takes care of the female vocals on “Whinnings”, which are the definite highlight of the minimalist song, as the uneasy sounding clean guitars have an out of tune quality that set you on edge. But when the distortion and death vocals join the fray, the heavier elements of the song raise it slightly and allow the lead to flay out slicing through the steady double kick.

The EP ends with “Curved Path”, where Emerson’s whispered & spoken vocals over the sounds of running water and forest birds along with strings and a picked guitar taking minimalism another step further.

While both bands have highlight songs, not all blew me away, but it is a good starting point to see if there is more worth listening to.
