‘Featuring members of Aborted, Solium Fatalis and Necronomichrist,’ this was never going to be a nice ride was it? Yep, knee deep into bludgeoning and brutal death metal I go. And straight in it is with barely time for cackled laugh before ‘Necromorphic Illumination’ drops the hammer. Intense, and with an actual groove to the catchy riff (catchy in a death metal sense I mean) it’s a nice start.
The charming ‘Hate Fucked Face’ is a little more tech with some nimble choppy changes but it thankfully for me mostly just steamrollers this with some fine vocals and just a big bloody hammer. I doubt they’ll thank me or agree but there’s something about this sound, the intense vocals, the chorus style and the in your face hammering that reminds me of One Man Army And The Undead Quartet (who I had a real soft spot for); classy, little tech flourishes but not enough to sterilize it and an unrelenting vocal, drum and riff attack.
‘Razorwire Communion’ and ‘Caverns Of Deformulated Flesh’ power on through with that utterly full on sound unwavering and into the great titled ‘Only Meth Is Real’ which has a little more chug to it, and eerie midsection with seething vocals and discordant guitar.
Ok, yeah I can go with this absolutely. No wheels reinvented but this is well crafted, beatdown and kick the corpse stuff. On occasion it is also catchy as all hell. ‘Decompression Disembowelment’ in particular just sucks you in (apparently the only way to go) and raises a sick little smile.
With only one song of the ten over four minutes this really has no fat on it at all. No endless diversions or riffs pounding out the same refrain for seven minutes; nope, Fetal Blood Eagle just kind of ram raid you.
A sound as bright as a well kept hammer, a style that just ploughs into you with no by your leave or introspection, a feel that veers towards death thrash at times but never really steps over that line and fantastic blend of traditional death vocal styles and there you have it.
A fine rampage.
