Yep apparently it’s a U not a V. Fooled me so out go my kvlt crvdentials….

Lovely packaging for the debut EP by this French solo project of atmospheric black metal. A half obscured figure struggles through a raging blizzard, maybe heading to the shack in the picture, probably unaware of its presence. Who knows? A lyric booklet (English) provided hints but is pretty obscure. Musings on the plague of mass humanity and the like.

So, the music? Well, we get four pieces (I-IV) and an outro in under 30 minutes. It is from the outset blizzard raging riffing and cries with interludes of still harsh edged but more dark and atmospheric music. I guess the problem though is that despite being well put together, and certainly fitting nicely together to create a distinct piece of work as a whole, there is genuinely little else to add for me.

What it leaves me with is kind of just impressions, rather as the cover does. Sometimes the wall of riffs blurs the landscape for too long before we get a glimpse of the musical landscape beneath, sometimes I get lost like the figure and things become just the mass about me. It’s just that overall nothing forms itself entirely, nothing coalesces beyond the blizzard for long enough to sculpt much that I can hold.

It’s one of those debuts that you feel certain will lead to much better things but at present this storm is still forming.
