One thing I’ll never get bored of is Slam, even in my lowest Slam moments when I thought the whole genre had gone to shit I would still put on Devourment, Kraanium and all the classics that I love. I then crawled out from my ‘trve’ hive renewed and ready to accept modernity. It was at this point when I started to find some killer bands, one of which was none other than Traumatomy.

A few years back I picked up a copy of Transcendental Evisceration Of Necrogenetic Beasts the band’s debut and I was utterly blown away by the sheer Slam weight of it. An international four piece with a plethora of talent and lust for real Slam Traumatomy are the kind of band who have, very rightfully ascended the ranks of BDM stardom. Their second album Monolith Of Absolute Suffering being another gem. Now we get to that all important third record though, Extirpation Paradigms, but can it still bring the heat?

I’ll never understand intro tracks as most of you know, but I have to say I’m less opposed to them when they’re actual music instead of nonsense sound clips (unless it’s a movie sample). As such the Intro of this album gives up BDM and Slam vibes, letting us know what’s to come. Then in comes Feeding Organism, it’s dirty, down trodden and total caveman music. I love the sluggish sounding Slam guitars and bass, not to mention the ultra-guttural vocals, it really is the full package. I have to say that Slam too, damn, that’s a nice Slam, full force, no messing, straight up carnage. The Slams keeping coming too, Inducing Intragenic Deformity keeps our knuckles firmly planted on the floor, to be hip it ‘slaps’. There isn’t an awful lot to this record except for sheer brutality but I’m totally fine with that, it’s what I expect and want from Traumatomy.

Getting into Patterns Of Tyranny, I feel like I just want to grab an inflatable hammer and march around a pit in a sweaty venue. No that’s not just me dreaming of a post-covid world, it’s just what this music does to me. I really appreciate that the band know their craft, if Cannibal Corpse have proven one thing for Death Metal it’s stick to your guns. Traumatomy certainly do that with an abundance of Slamming, just the way it should be. I want to talk about the drumming too, very impressive stuff, truly excellent BDM patterns, in fact it’s the very thing that breathes that extra life into the album and makes it really standout. This record just takes Slam to a logical conclusion, I really enjoy that. Some might see it as parodying itself but for me it’s more a band who understand the logic behind extreme music, excess is best.

So there we have it, if you like huge Slams with massive drops, guttural vocals, pounding drums and all-round good BDM then you’ll find it right here. Traumatomy are a band who since their debut have been on the rise and for good reason. Extirpation Paradigms really emphasises just how good a band they really are, and along with Korpse I think we’re beginning to see the forming of a new age for Slam. Not one that is necessarily new in an inventive sense but one that is new is terms of just well written music.
