Wow, where do I start on this one. So it was sold to me as a creative outlet, beyond a conventional approach, something truly unique, expressive, whilst fusing together instruments such as the harp, accordion, guitar and natural voice. Intrigued?? I know that I certainly was and ‘Void’ did not disappoint, although it definitely is on a higher plateau than your average release.

Corecass is the mind of Hamburg based composer and musician Elinor Ludde, and is in a different stratosphere in relation to the atmosphere and ambience it conjures up. The latest album ‘Void’ has rolling soundscapes of swathing cinematic waves coupled together with dark and moody ripples of charm which all add to create a monumental piece of character and aura which is almost hypnotic in its deliverance.

The album is reported to consist of 6 tracks, but fundamentally it is a beast of two souls. The three main tracks, ‘VOID I’, ‘VOID II’ and ‘VOID III’, which hold the majority and monopoly on the more traditional approach to song writing (although it is by no means like anything you will have ever experienced before) interspersed with ‘Carbon’, ‘Amber’ and ‘Breath’, a more creative and natural sounding trio of assaults on your senses which will all leave you pondering the ethereal sounds and mix of emotions its triggers through their very being. The ‘Void’ tracks are the outlets for the instruments to come to the forefront and subject you to the more majestic and orchestral backbone to the album, whilst the more natural sounding track names belong to a serene and calming set of artistic representations of the natural world. ‘Carbon’ ‘Amber’ and ‘Breath’ are almost silent and may very well have you reaching for the volume on your chosen speaker feed but once you have battled with the lowered audio you will be swept away to a more zen like mental trance.

Corecass uses the tracks, and ‘VOID’ as a whole, to interpret the world that she is enveloped in and has chosen to showcase the unique sound of a church organ to be a major driving force behind the make-up of the tracks. The package is also constructed with a myriad of sounds and sources, from the distant sounds of the ocean meeting with the shore, to the weaving and complex natural voice speech segments, each of which will tempt you and challenge you to open up to the complexity and intricacy it brings with it.

Some of you may be familiar with the accomplished and prolific back catalogue from Corecass, and to you, this will not come as a disappointment as it is just as colossal and vast as previous offerings. For those of you who are not familiar with Corecass, prepare to be amazed, this is magical and breath-taking beyond anything you will have genuinely witnessed before.
