This bravura exploration of a dystopian future and cosmic times, was led carefully from the hands and skills of both bands. It may contain only 3 songs but its more than enough. In its whole duration, this CD is a trip to another dimension. With an eleven minute piece by Izah, called ”Antagonized” , and two heavy instrumentals by Fire Walk with us, the two Dutch bands create a majestic atmosphere of heavy riffage, bizarre melodies and greasy vocals, as far as Izah are concerned.
”Antagonized” had a strange composition. These guys are crazy! It was eleven minutes of pure extreme metal psychedelia, with math inspired heavy riffs, black metal harmonies (see, Deathspell Omega) and a sense of rejuvenation of this kind of music. Well, it was a little bit boring near the end, but man, there’s a lot of effort in this one.
On the other hand, Fire walk with us exploded an instrumental harmony with both Ascent and Bygones. There are no vocals in these songs, but believe me, any vocals will ruin the atmosphere. Both songs are excellently written and can present their subtext strongly.
In other words this is an excellent piece of work, a true representation of a new generation and what new musicians can achieve, without sticking to the already known standards of the music industry, but yet there’s much to be accomplished. And at last, i want to underline, that the explanation of their genre is entirely wrong. I dont think one can consider them as hardcore or even post. Let’s forget about the labels and enjoy this piece. Do not ask about the genre of the two bands there isn’t a clear explanation.
