US death metal has had a minor shake up recently, especially if you read some of the comments about a recent release that has split opinions worldwide. Far removed from that stigma are Chaos Inception who have a style and delivery akin to recent Hate Eternal material and can be summarised as death metal that is fast, furious and very technical without losing its appeal. Rather than going into the brutal death spectrum, Chaos Inception keep it genuine, the opening track and title track ‘The Abrogation’ does them justice in this respect.

Upon my first listen I was a little disappointed, the album is over in just under 30 minutes, yes it is fast, but I felt cheated. Hence, multiple spins are required to gain an appreciation of this release. ‘Pazuzu Eternal’ is authentic old Morbid Angel at its best (even with it Melodic sensibilities), and although I hear people saying this has a South American death metal influence, I don’t hear this at all if I am honest, but as I am loving Matt Barnes’ riffs, solos and other guitar wielding instabilities I generally feel that that is no loss. There is a tendency for newer bands to concentrate on obliterating the fretboard without a genuine level of craftsmanship bolstering up the foundations. Whilst I do confess to finding this release way too technical for my tastes, it’s a spectacular effort for any musically gifted individual, you will be blow away with the sheer power and precision of the riff machine, in fact the whole band delivery is tighter than a guy with short arms and long pockets.

Presentation is key, and presentation is exceptional in this case, the album artwork (by Paolo Girardi) is great, I love studying the painting both front and back to discover new visuals each time, and the sound, this is captured at Stargate Studios in Alabama and this is something that is done rather well also.

Planting a severe stake in the marketplace, Chaos Inception produce an album in ‘The Abrogation’ that really spells the end of the world, it is filled with deft musical precision, speed and genuine arrangements that are short enough to maintain your attention. Make no mistake, these gentlemen have an album that rivals many big names, ‘The Abrogation’ is essential for any extreme death metal fan and this could be the album that many were waiting for from an American death metal band in recent times.
