Your No. 1 Source For Extreme And Atmospheric Music And Film.

Author Martin Harris

Rock and metal have been in my existence for about 30 years and saw me go through a rapid weaning period that covered AC/DC, Maiden, Saxon, Whitesnake, Motorhead, etc from about 1982 to 1984 before shifting to thrash in the summer of 1984. At that point my only mission was to find the fastest, most violent music on the planet resulting checking out every genre in extreme music from death metal and grindcore to crust punk and hardcore all of which I still adore today and buy albums from and go see live. During the 80s I grew up in the infamous Bradford thrash scene, a time I still dearly miss such was the inventiveness and great camaraderie it held. I’m a bit of phase metaller, going from one style to another, through sheer investigation of finding something new, but always sticking with them all. I’m a total sucker for double bass and blast beats and always will be no matter what genre it comes from. I absolutely detest people that have joined the metal scene because it is trendy or their mates like it, likewise I detest people who are shallow and think this music is a fad of growing up. Most of us are extremely well educated and articulate individuals who prefer freedom of self expression than indoctrination by mass media organisations hell bent on artistic sterilisation. Much of my cash is spent on following metal and I wouldn’t change a thing about it because it is the best music scene in the world.

Blood Chalice – The Blasphemous Psalms Of Cannibalism (Werewolf Records)

Finland’s Blood Chalice have absolutely no subtleties whatsoever, you’ve only to listen the band’s debut ‘Sepulchral Chants Of Self-Destruction’, released in 2017, to realise that. Their unhinged savagery tears you apart and continues with this sophomore album with a promo… Continue Reading →

Behemoth – Opvs Contra Natvram (Nuclear Blast)

If, like me, you have been around for some time within the extreme metal scene then you will be very familiar with the Behemoth discography. In fact I’d even say they have been very consistent since Nergal formed the band… Continue Reading →

Hyrgal – Hyrgal (LADLO Productions)

I’m sure it is quite well recognised that this French band has Clément Flandrois of Svart Crown heading it up. Indeed he has been at the helm since the bands inception in 2007 following which they have released a demo,… Continue Reading →

Hierophant – Death Siege (Season Of Mist)

This is the Italian band with this moniker as I know there are a few others knocking about as the four-piece unleash their fifth and utterly barbaric new album. The intense opening intro ‘Mortem Aeternam’ sets the scene superbly, building… Continue Reading →

Träumen Von Aurora – Aurora + Luna (Trollzorn Records)

A double album from Germany’s Träumen Von Aurora whose name translates as Dreaming Of Aurora. It is rare you get bands releasing two albums on the same date but this very skilled and accomplished act has done just that with… Continue Reading →

Tomb Of Finland – Across The Barren Fields (Uprising Records)

These Finnish melodic doom death metallers have released a couple of fine albums already in 2015 and 2018, titled ‘Below The Green’ and ‘Frozen Beneath’ respectively and whilst their band name suggests an act of utter deathly filth they offer… Continue Reading →

Mass Extinction – Never- Ending Holocaust (Horror Pain Gore Death Productions)

This album was originally self-released in 2020 in digital format before a subsequent release in physical format, i.e. cassette, a couple of times later that same year by two different labels before being picked by the US based label for… Continue Reading →

Shuriken Cadaveric Entwinement – Constructing The Cataclysm (Comatose Music)

I am sure most of us have labels that we follow or have liked over the years, whether it is because of their eclectic nature, diversity, quality or in the case of US label Comatose Music their outright pulverising roster…. Continue Reading →

Nightbearer – Ghosts Of A Darkness To Come (Testimony Records)

A second album from German chainsaw death metallers Nightbearer following on very nicely from their excellent debut full length ‘Tales Of Sorcery And Death’ released in 2019. Whether you would say there is a progression on their sophomore is down… Continue Reading →

Vonülfsrëich – Ragnarök Rising (Fallen Temple)

This Finnish band has been around for about a decade and previously released only one full length but a raft of EPs and demos, eight and two respectively, as the duo of Yonülf and Fogg play all the instruments on… Continue Reading →

Mondocane – Gloria (Fallen Temple)

Swedish act Mondocane released a fine album, ‘Dvala’, in 2021, which I reviewed for the site, and you can check out here, an album abounding with atmospheric causticity but also embellished with subtle keyboards and melodies as once again I… Continue Reading →

Entrails – An Eternal Time Of Decay (Hammerheart Records)

There were a couple of bands called Entrails in Sweden back in the early 90s during the days when the ‘Swedeath’ sound was craved for and opposed the more clinical cleaner sound that was emanating from Morrisound Studios around the… Continue Reading →
