Four tracks of blended deathcore and death metal from Spanish act Wasting The Genesis who already have an EP and full length available. There is nothing here that makes you think WTG are different to a wealth of other deathcore acts, but the intent by this five-piece is perfectly clear; inflict as much sonic damage as possible with their four short knuckle dragging tunes. There are plenty of references to other well-established acts such Thy Art Is Murder, Carnifex, Whitechapel, I could go on, but at least WTG craft their own style which begins with ‘I. Stem Of A Forgotten Race’. I have left the Roman numeral on the song title as that is how I think the band intends the tunes to be written, but I could be wrong. Nevertheless, the opener is prime deathcore fodder, brutally played and delivered with a dense sound and overriding sense of devastation, pulverising the listener to a pulp. There is a tech element too, something proper deathcore absolutely requires instead of just assaulting the listener with variations on a breakdown riff that makes the genre boring.

‘II. Breeding Bacterium’ follows as the chaotic blast beat ensures the song has intensity and but is spliced by some excellent melodic riffing that suggests the death metal influence to this band’s repertoire. The colossal breakdown riff may be predictable but its damage is resolute, sectioning the song extremely well for pinpoint destruction. Slightly longer is the third tune ‘III. Genesis’, a slightly more progressive track the band favours a sinister dramatic styling and it works well. With the vocals enhancing the albums overall malice courtesy of the harsh tones the song swerves via various riff changes and even has a semi acoustic phase that caught me out somewhat, before the EP ends with ‘IV. Thy End, New Rise’.

The closer had me scribbling down Fit For An Autopsy though quite why that band entered my head must have been subliminal as the closer ends like how the release started. Punishingly dense riffs and crushing speed, something the band knows exactly how to position for the utmost impact as indeed fans of any of the bands I’ve mentioned will enjoy this EP, I certainly did.
