Admittedly as far as this writer is concerned listening habits are more inclined to shades of black, the darker the better but sometimes a change is necessary. So what exactly are the sounds of green and blue? Well as far as this London based band are concerned they are firmly pitched toward the classic rock style. I wouldn’t say they are particularly “hard” nor really as the label blurb likes to lead us in the stoner or psyche sphere. What they do is draw their mark in the ground leading between the greats of yesteryear and more recent retro rockers such as Graveyard and Kadaver.

The ‘blue’ is also firmly noted as they strum in on opener ‘Ocean Queen’ with a thick bass twang and bluesy melody. First impression is very reminiscent of Led Zeppelin and in line with that the vocals are soulful croons which would have no trouble reaching the moon itself on a clear and crisp night. The production is equally uncluttered with definition on each aspect of the recording the guitar led jangle into ‘Flowers For Teeth’ and the following boogie on down rhythm guaranteed to get you up and dancing. Compared to this there are also plenty of laid back moments such as the dreamy ‘Colour My World’ leaving you wanting to sprawl on your back and watch the clouds drift by.

‘Middle Of The End’ injects a neat piano line into proceedings, you could easily imagine Jools Holland accompanying this one on The Old Grey Whistle Test as the vocalist’s croons do their best to shatter the optics in the room. Freaks and flower children will no doubt dig ‘Pulling Daisies’ and once it properly kicks in all directions point toward the Summer Of Love. You can easily see why this one was picked as a single at its hooks get straight in your head. Ticking plenty of boxes as we move through these nine tracks the harmony ‘I Can’t Say’ has a bit of a Southern American vibe about it and there’s a touch of both Queen and The Beatles to ‘Fear Before The Fall.’

Providing a timeless jaunt ‘Sounds Of Green and Blue’ provides a comfortable 40-minute mellow listening experience on recorded output and no doubt the band would be great to soak up on a live stage. Those really into the style could easily add a mark to the mark personally provided below.
