It appears that one of Poland’s premier extreme metal labels has decided to pick up this EP for a further push as originally it was released as a four tracker in 2022. This latest version comes with the said EP but also with the band’s latest track ‘Poisoning’ added into the track order. I do like thrash bands that don’t meddle with the formula established during the halcyon thrash days of the mid 1980s, indeed Drunk Thrasher ooze vitriol and violence from every riff and hook they have recorded here. The simplistic EP cover of vomitous style yellow rounds things off alongside the DIY looking logo that I also like and is something you might have scribbled down yourself way back in the 80s when doodling.

As a five track release this packs an absolute wallop from start to finish as noticeably you will be drawn to the truly acerbic guitar sound the band has, similar to the likes of South American or German thrash bands of the said 80s era. It is wholly pernicious as opener ‘Thrashrust’ so ably proves. The EP has a tonal mix that is high end making every song feel that more caustic and that bit more aggressive as the amount of bass deployed seems to be virtually nil as Drunk Thrasher, whose band this is, prefers a lo-fi approach to the songs. The opener also has plenty of Slayer like riffage and screaming solos that Messieurs King and Hanneman were making your ears bleed to all those years ago.

Continuing the onslaught is the title track, which rockets out of the blocks with a full scale sonic assault that whilst lacking the technical expertise of modern contemporaries in thrash it more than compensates by the sheer acrimony of the riffs and vocal tirade. Drum wise this is simplistically done, as he appears to smash the living crap out of whatever kit he is playing on these songs. Slowing down marginally is ‘Masturbation On The Tomb’ which opens with a melodic purposeful riff that seems to sit on top of the mix as the drumming and cymbals accentuate the slower beat. There is a touch of crust on the riff too in places as it uses its slower pacing to deliver a penetrating and piercing hook.

‘Poisoning’ is the penultimate tune and here we get some semblance of speed metal on the riff, particularly of the 80s German style. The sound is still very similar to the rest of the EP, high treble riffing amidst a relentless barrage of drums and cymbal adornments. The whole song is ravenously savage from start to finish, ensuring it has all the hallmarks of a proper thrash mauling that leaves only ‘Drunk Thrashers Attack’ to conclude. Using a sample of opening cans and some squealing guitar feedback lays the foundations for another virtual speed metal attack which I particularly liked. I would absolutely love to hear these songs played live though I am not sure if Drunk Thrasher do play live with some recruited live musicians as these songs will absolutely slay on the live front without question.

A primeval onslaught by Drunk Thrasher that fans of old school thrash should be checking out without hesitation.
