I grew up in the North East at the tail end of NWOBHM and US Power Metal scene and more noticably during the glam vs. thrash conflict. I then upped sticks to spend a good few years in the West Midlands during the late 90's.

Over the years I have become a fanatical collector of records, T shirts and CD's and in this current internet age, mp3's are not what i consider to be called part a record collection for the "record"!

I decided to start writing reviews as I thought that it would be a good way to give back some positive support for artists and a music phenomenon that has given me great pleasure over the years. I prefer to listen to bands that can really play their instruments and have a talent for melody and good arrangements. I try to be constructive with everything I endeavour within music. When on or off "duty" you will more than likely see me enjoying rather a few pints of the good stuff at the bar in the London area and maybe at some various other watering holes around the country...i don't bite, i just stumble a bit...

Long live metal with all its triumphs and tribulations, metal fans are a community, it's a lifestyle, it is everything to man and beast!

Allfather – A Violent Truth (Trepanation)

This Medway group are quite a brutal bunch of souls; their live outings have been energetic and heavy as hell. This is their latest release, but if you are not conversant, than their motto is “beards, metal, F*ck You”. This… Continue Reading →

Mace ‘N’ Chain – Among Ancient Pillars (No Remorse)

This is a project I have been following via an online music platform, thankfully those “you might also like” tags work well; David Nilsson, who is the vocalist of Swedish death metal band Feral, forms it. He handled all music,… Continue Reading →

Night Demon – Outsider (Century Media)

This is the US trio’s third album, along the way I have seen this band grow in stature considerably. During the pandemic, they released a multitude of 7-inch singles that were compiled into a CD release. Thus, ‘Outsider’ represents 8… Continue Reading →

Air Raid – Fatal Encounter (High Roller)

These Swedes have been top drawer all the way through their career, after a 4-year break in releases; ‘Fatal Encounter’ is ready for the world. It’s a striking album, and the infused logo returns after an albums break. The cover… Continue Reading →

Screamer – Kingmaker (Steamhammer)

Album number five is ready and waiting, from this Swedish heavy metal juggernaut. I have followed their releases from the start, with each one there’s marked improvement. This one some might say is a cataclysmic shift in the quality stakes…. Continue Reading →

Terrörhammer – Gateway to Hades (Osmose Productions)

A good dose of Serbian necro speed metal is presented here, a second full length, but a band whom have had many shorter releases over the last ten years. ‘Inside the Nuclear Tomb’ is laden with d-beat and is rabid,… Continue Reading →

Hellfuck – Diabolic Slaughter (Godz ov War)

This is Teutonic Thrash from Poland with a heavy slice of Kreator, Sodom and early Slayer influence. The imagery may have them pigeonholed into a more blackened sub-genre, however, musically they are much more proficient, being seasoned musicians from many… Continue Reading →

Witchunter – Metal Dream (Dying Victims)

This is the third release from an Italian band whom I have not heard from since their debut. Influence is taken heavily from the NWoBHM scene and traditional metal from Europe. ‘Devil Preacher’ has a powerful Witch Cross/NWoBHM influence, whilst… Continue Reading →

Steve Blower – Thunder and Lightning (S/R)

‘Thunder and Lightning’ is Steve’s third solo release. Steve is a UK independent artist who some may know from the band Hamerex. Immediately, the drums, those toms have a profound effect, the balls start shaking and your ears react during… Continue Reading →
