I grew up in the North East at the tail end of NWOBHM and US Power Metal scene and more noticably during the glam vs. thrash conflict. I then upped sticks to spend a good few years in the West Midlands during the late 90's.

Over the years I have become a fanatical collector of records, T shirts and CD's and in this current internet age, mp3's are not what i consider to be called part a record collection for the "record"!

I decided to start writing reviews as I thought that it would be a good way to give back some positive support for artists and a music phenomenon that has given me great pleasure over the years. I prefer to listen to bands that can really play their instruments and have a talent for melody and good arrangements. I try to be constructive with everything I endeavour within music. When on or off "duty" you will more than likely see me enjoying rather a few pints of the good stuff at the bar in the London area and maybe at some various other watering holes around the country...i don't bite, i just stumble a bit...

Long live metal with all its triumphs and tribulations, metal fans are a community, it's a lifestyle, it is everything to man and beast!

Demon Eye – Leave the Light (Soulseller)

This is a promising US band who took their name from a darker Deep Purple tune and it’s fair to say that dark riffs is their thing if last years ‘Shades of Black’ EP is anything to go by. There… Continue Reading →

Black Magic – Wizard’s Spell (High Roller Records)

Black Magic (Norway) may have already split up but this release takes in all their material recorded to date including their second demo ‘Reap of Evil’. Whilst live I wasn’t actually impressed at the Live Evil festival a couple of… Continue Reading →

Firebrand Super Rock – Born for the Gallows (Wasted State Records)

Scotland’s Firebrand Super Rock are a terrific live band whom I first discovered at Bloodstock some years ago. Fast forward to recent times and after following a few memorable and often drunken live shows, they are back with their second… Continue Reading →

Blaze – The Rock Dinosaur (High Roller)

Japan’s Blaze and their ‘Rock Dinosaur’ is their follow up EP to the stunning self-titled debut that landed this way a while back. This band may hark back to the glory days of hard rock and metal and the EP… Continue Reading →

Iced Earth – Plagues of Babylon (Century Media)

Iced Earth are an institution of consistency in recent times and this being the second release to feature now relatively long time member Stu Block on vocals the promise is quite exciting based on their last effort ‘Dystopia’. Of course,… Continue Reading →

Crystal Viper – Possession (AFM)

Polish female fronted metal band Crystal Viper have returned with this concept album following up to the remarkable ‘Crimen Excepta’ album released some 18 months ago. The concept is based around a girl called Julia which is pretty much like… Continue Reading →

Groan – Ride The Snake (Superhot Records)

Groan are a trip-tastic obsession for me, their releases are genuinely filled with a sense of mystery and character. They are a lot different to the many stoner doom bands out there and a lot of this comes from the… Continue Reading →

Hamerex – IX (IX Music)

A regular feature in my review cycle over the past few years has been a new Hamerex release and after various demos, EP’s and last year’s ‘Rites Of Passage album, ‘IX’ (the ninth thing they have brought out) is this… Continue Reading →

Stallion – Mounting the World (High Roller)

Another day, another young band jumping into the shoes of classic metal or in this case speed induced metal with some surprising old school glam twists and turns included along the way. That you’ll read about later, but for now… Continue Reading →

Night – ST (Gaphals Records)

Blowing off the cobwebs of your stereo and denim are Sweden’s Night, their previous two 7 inch singles were an indication of their sound, their style and this is the first full length album that I have really been waiting… Continue Reading →

Sacrificium – Prey for Your Gods (Whirlwind Records)

This German death metal machine celebrate 20 years of existence with this effort ‘Prey For Your Gods’, a remarkable feat in this day and age but also a travesty when you hear bands that are as good as this laying… Continue Reading →

Stryper – No More Hell to Pay (Frontiers Records)

Since Stryper’s return with 2005’s ‘Reborn’ then the subsequent and much improved ‘Murder By Pride’ full length (their last effort ‘Second Coming’ was re-recordings with only 2 new tracks and the one before that a complete covers album) 2009, people… Continue Reading →
