I grew up in the North East at the tail end of NWOBHM and US Power Metal scene and more noticably during the glam vs. thrash conflict. I then upped sticks to spend a good few years in the West Midlands during the late 90's.

Over the years I have become a fanatical collector of records, T shirts and CD's and in this current internet age, mp3's are not what i consider to be called part a record collection for the "record"!

I decided to start writing reviews as I thought that it would be a good way to give back some positive support for artists and a music phenomenon that has given me great pleasure over the years. I prefer to listen to bands that can really play their instruments and have a talent for melody and good arrangements. I try to be constructive with everything I endeavour within music. When on or off "duty" you will more than likely see me enjoying rather a few pints of the good stuff at the bar in the London area and maybe at some various other watering holes around the country...i don't bite, i just stumble a bit...

Long live metal with all its triumphs and tribulations, metal fans are a community, it's a lifestyle, it is everything to man and beast!

Warfaith – Wise Man Is Dead (S/R)

This is a French thrash band, although to my mind this isn’t thrash as I would normally categorise as being so. It’s very modern, very nineties and noughties, it has aggressive “core” vocals, a few riffs here and there that… Continue Reading →

Tony Mills – Over My Dead Body (Battlegod)

Tony Mill’s is probably best known as the ex-TNT vocalist, although this Midland’s born singer has also spent some time with Shy and Serpentine, and if you search hard enough, there’s some guesting for Cerebral Fix too via his initial… Continue Reading →

Inside Metal: Pioneers of LA Hard Rock and Metal – Part 1 (Wienerworld)

Raven – ExtermiNation (SPV)

Raven wrote the book on insane and fast metal during the NWOBHM movement and have to their credit continued to record albums when many others unplugged their equipment in the face of other musical trends becoming more mainstream. This album… Continue Reading →

Black Royal – The Summoning Part 1 (Armless Stranger)

Coming out of Tampere, Finland, Black Royal are a touch different to the cavalcade of bands that are usually associated with this location. The emphasis is right royally peppered in bleak harsh stoner inspiration, with a splash of youthful angst,… Continue Reading →

Blizzen – Time Machine (High Roller)

Blizzen are another fresh band from Germany playing heavy/speed metal that’s got a touch more class than some of the bands out there. Long awaited and on the right label, this band have some killer tunes. From the opening speed… Continue Reading →

Hamerex – The Last Ride (IX Music)

Finally, Yorkshire’s Hamerex have delivered a release I knew they could! That’s not to detract or belittle their previous material which has been covered on this site a few times before, no, but they have gone and developed and delivered… Continue Reading →

Majesty, Bloodbound, Evil Invaders – London Underworld 1/4/15

Such is the multi-genre billing tonight, I expected a larger crowd than what actually turned up, but not withstanding a late showing of the openers Evil Invaders, the venue was set alight from their opening notes. There are bands that… Continue Reading →

Sacral Rage – Illusions in Infinite Void (Cruz Del Sur)

Sacral Rage (from Greece) play a style of US metal popular in the mid to late 80’s. But rather than being one dimensional towards that era, there is a touch of progressive, a touch of thrash, a whole lot of… Continue Reading →

Those with their finger on the pulse in the last few years would know all about Finland’s Lord Fist, they are an epic traditional metal band for which this is their first full length album. Having been party to their… Continue Reading →
