I grew up in the North East at the tail end of NWOBHM and US Power Metal scene and more noticably during the glam vs. thrash conflict. I then upped sticks to spend a good few years in the West Midlands during the late 90's.

Over the years I have become a fanatical collector of records, T shirts and CD's and in this current internet age, mp3's are not what i consider to be called part a record collection for the "record"!

I decided to start writing reviews as I thought that it would be a good way to give back some positive support for artists and a music phenomenon that has given me great pleasure over the years. I prefer to listen to bands that can really play their instruments and have a talent for melody and good arrangements. I try to be constructive with everything I endeavour within music. When on or off "duty" you will more than likely see me enjoying rather a few pints of the good stuff at the bar in the London area and maybe at some various other watering holes around the country...i don't bite, i just stumble a bit...

Long live metal with all its triumphs and tribulations, metal fans are a community, it's a lifestyle, it is everything to man and beast!

Urn – The Burning (Iron Bonehead Productions)

It’s been nine long years since ‘Soul Destroyers’, an album that was ok, I still think their debut ‘666 Megatons’ was bloody amazing black thrash…but in any case, the break has rejuvenated the band since their last recorded output. This… Continue Reading →

Entrench – Through the Walls of Flesh (I Hate)

Swedish raw thrashers Entrench come back after three years away with this tasty little thrasher. If you are a fan of the faster (Razor) and rawer (early Slayer, Kreator and Sodom) side of the sub-genre then you will embrace this… Continue Reading →

Lifeless – The Occult Mastery (FDA Records)

Who’d have thought…Germany’s Lifeless would return with their third full length album, and my opening statement refers to a rotten death metal band in the vein of the Swedish masters, however as with Dismember in their later years, some of… Continue Reading →

Blackevil – The Ceremonial Fire (FDA Records)

I have only recently discovered this German band via their debut EP ‘Hail the Cult’, which was some hefty black/thrash. This full length album certainly expands their arsenal somewhat based on what I’ve heard. The nasty harshness is still present,… Continue Reading →

Stallion – From the Dead (High Roller)

This is Stallion’s second full length album, and I am in agreement with the PR material for this German heavy/speed metal bands efforts, it’s a more refined and mature effort from the start. Blistering into action is the fast ‘Underground… Continue Reading →

Affaire – Neon Gods (Raging Planet)

With PR material heralding tales of Sunset Strip influence, this Lisbon/Portuguese band present a nicely packaged digi EP containing 5 tracks, one of which is a Beatles cover. The style is typical, a little messy, whilst the ideas are there,… Continue Reading →

Walpyrgus – Walpyrgus Nights (Cruz Del Sur)

Formed 5 years ago, this American heavy metal force is born with members from Twisted Tower Dire, While Heaven Wept and Viper. My interest started when ex-Widow drummer Peter Lemieux joined the band and subsequently bought their demo tape. Roll… Continue Reading →

Antichrist – Sinful Birth (I Hate)

It’s been a while since we heard from Sweden’s Antichrist, their live appearances on these shores are always fun and filled with a touch of good friendly violence for the crowd. Once again, a new logo comes with a new… Continue Reading →

Legionnaire – Dawn of Genesis (Gates of Hell)

This is a debut album from a band from Finland who have been active for some five years now. They play barbaric traditional metal in some quarters, old Swedish metal and NWOBHM in other places. Laden with galloping riffs associated… Continue Reading →

Tytan – Justice Served (High Roller Records)

After witnessing a few live shows since their re-emergence, Tytan are more than your typical NWOBHM band. Their debut album may have come out a couple of years too late to be heralded as a major force in the original… Continue Reading →

Deus Otiosus – Opposer (Great Dane Records)

This is their fourth full length release and continuing in a similar vein to the former full length album ‘Rise’ from a few years back, this Danish band have been criminally somewhat under the radar throughout their recording career. Immediately… Continue Reading →

Engulfed – Engulfed In Obscurity (Hellthrasher Productions)

This Turkish death metal band features members of Burial Invocation and Decaying Purity and play a dirty form of death metal akin to Incantation, Funerus and Funebrarum. At times things verge into blackened styles with some of the haunting riffs… Continue Reading →
