Author Paul Maddison

I grew up in the North East at the tail end of NWOBHM and US Power Metal scene and more noticably during the glam vs. thrash conflict. I then upped sticks to spend a good few years in the West Midlands during the late 90's.

Over the years I have become a fanatical collector of records, T shirts and CD's and in this current internet age, mp3's are not what i consider to be called part a record collection for the "record"!

I decided to start writing reviews as I thought that it would be a good way to give back some positive support for artists and a music phenomenon that has given me great pleasure over the years. I prefer to listen to bands that can really play their instruments and have a talent for melody and good arrangements. I try to be constructive with everything I endeavour within music. When on or off "duty" you will more than likely see me enjoying rather a few pints of the good stuff at the bar in the London area and maybe at some various other watering holes around the country...i don't bite, i just stumble a bit...

Long live metal with all its triumphs and tribulations, metal fans are a community, it's a lifestyle, it is everything to man and beast!

Amulet – The Inevitable War (Dissonance)

London’s Amulet return with a new line up and more notable a new singer for their second album release. I caught the new line up nearly a year ago at ‘Frost & Fire London’, this is the first time I… Continue Reading →

Riot City – Burn the Night (No Remorse Records)

Vultures Vengeance – The Knightlore (Gates of Hell)

Italian “epic” heavy metal, actually on their debut full length album, and having checked my collection, yes it is true. The name Vultures Vengeance has been a part of the underground for 10 years or so, although I am going… Continue Reading →

Asomvel – World Shaker (Heavy Psych Sounds)

Yorkshire’s finest return with a new album and line up. These heavy rock n rollers always manage to tee up some top quality sounds. Their influence is well documented; we won’t go to that place this time around. You know… Continue Reading →

Smoulder – Times of Obscene Evil and Wild Daring (Cruz Del Sur)

Canadian epic doom/US power metal at it modern finest is how I would best describe Smoulder. This is a band I once again discovered trawling through an online music platform.  It’s no doubt that their influence comes from Solitude Aeturnus,… Continue Reading →

Enforcer – Zenith (Nuclear Blast)

Sweden’s Enforcer, I can’t believe it has been 4 years since their last one ‘From Beyond’ of which I thought was a world dominating effort. So when this album landed, there’s an easy choice for me. But wait a minute;… Continue Reading →

Troll – Legend Master (Shadow Kingdom)
