Your No. 1 Source For Extreme And Atmospheric Music And Film.

Author Paul Maddison

I grew up in the North East at the tail end of NWOBHM and US Power Metal scene and more noticably during the glam vs. thrash conflict. I then upped sticks to spend a good few years in the West Midlands during the late 90's.

Over the years I have become a fanatical collector of records, T shirts and CD's and in this current internet age, mp3's are not what i consider to be called part a record collection for the "record"!

I decided to start writing reviews as I thought that it would be a good way to give back some positive support for artists and a music phenomenon that has given me great pleasure over the years. I prefer to listen to bands that can really play their instruments and have a talent for melody and good arrangements. I try to be constructive with everything I endeavour within music. When on or off "duty" you will more than likely see me enjoying rather a few pints of the good stuff at the bar in the London area and maybe at some various other watering holes around the country...i don't bite, i just stumble a bit...

Long live metal with all its triumphs and tribulations, metal fans are a community, it's a lifestyle, it is everything to man and beast!

RAM – The Throne Within (Metal Blade)

RAM are no strangers to these pages and after 20 years in the business, they return with a cracking release. This is much more a metal album, their last one “Rod” was a concept album and things are freer flowing… Continue Reading →

Workshed – Workshed (Rise Above)

After nearly a quarter of a century away, two former Cathedral members have returned with Workshed. Namely, Mark Wharton and Adam Lehan, whom are well respected for their doom heritage, and Workshed simply personifies their importance and influence within the… Continue Reading →

Sacrilege – The Court of the Insane (Pure Steel)

This is Sacrilege’s third release since their 2012 comeback, their 7th in total, whilst always featuring on the darker and heavier side of the NWoBHM movement, they certainly don’t disappoint. Having caught this band live quite a few times now,… Continue Reading →

Sacri Monti – Waiting Room for the Magic Hour (Tee Pee)

It’s been four years since their debut, and my expectations are high for this one. The San Diego based quintet’s debut was a psychedelic master class, reminiscent of messiah’s Cream, Hendrix, Uriah Heep and so on. This one, well, they… Continue Reading →

Metalian – Vortex (High Roller)

This Canadian band now presents their third full length release. Their career has been long, over ten years, but with other life commitments, releases have been sparse. I have a couple of their EP releases and so there are not… Continue Reading →

Leathurbitch – Into the Night (High Roller)

This American band combines speed metal with glam/sleaze metal from the 80’s. Many may never have heard of bands of times past doing a similar thing, this is apparently done within the confines of the modern metal scene (are there… Continue Reading →
