Author Martin Harris

Rock and metal have been in my existence for about 30 years and saw me go through a rapid weaning period that covered AC/DC, Maiden, Saxon, Whitesnake, Motorhead, etc from about 1982 to 1984 before shifting to thrash in the summer of 1984. At that point my only mission was to find the fastest, most violent music on the planet resulting checking out every genre in extreme music from death metal and grindcore to crust punk and hardcore all of which I still adore today and buy albums from and go see live. During the 80s I grew up in the infamous Bradford thrash scene, a time I still dearly miss such was the inventiveness and great camaraderie it held. I’m a bit of phase metaller, going from one style to another, through sheer investigation of finding something new, but always sticking with them all. I’m a total sucker for double bass and blast beats and always will be no matter what genre it comes from. I absolutely detest people that have joined the metal scene because it is trendy or their mates like it, likewise I detest people who are shallow and think this music is a fad of growing up. Most of us are extremely well educated and articulate individuals who prefer freedom of self expression than indoctrination by mass media organisations hell bent on artistic sterilisation. Much of my cash is spent on following metal and I wouldn’t change a thing about it because it is the best music scene in the world.

Geld – Currency Castration (Relapse Records)

The brief snippets I heard of this Australian band were enough for me to want to review this latest release for the site, before which I did a proper swing through their discography to get a feel for how the… Continue Reading →

Torture Rack – Primeval Onslaught (20 Buck Spin)

Bands with names like this I always check to see if there any other acts with the same name and was surprised to find out that there aren’t which is highly unusual given that most words and terms surrounding torture… Continue Reading →

Garoted – Bewitchment Of The Dark Ages (Lavadome Productions)

This US act has been flying under the radar for over a decade now, which is a shame as their back catalogue is awash with technically adroit brutal death metal. With a change in vocalist comes this fourth full length… Continue Reading →

A Pretext To Human Suffering – Endless Cycle Of Suffering (Reality Fade)

Having only formed in 2020 this international act comprising band members hailing from the USA, Canada and Mexico has a spate of releases out, predominantly singles but also one EP before this bludgeoning full length. You could probably guess the… Continue Reading →

Phlebotomized – Clouds Of Confusion (Hammerheart Records)

For reasons unbeknownst to yours truly this long established and revered Dutch death metal band has completely passed me barring the odd glimpse into their melodic doom death I’ve heard in passing. Often seen as one of the founding bands… Continue Reading →

Throne Of Flesh – Dust (Great Dane Records)

I have to admit that the cover art adorning this EP caught my eye, its disturbing imagery made me think about those petrified statues of Pompeii when Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. The way those people were caught in a… Continue Reading →

Ascended Dead – Evenfall Of The Apocalypse (20 Buck Spin)

In the intervening six years between this US band’s debut, ‘Abhorrent Manifestation’ and this sophomore the band has released two splits, a demo, a live album and a box set, meaning the band has been busy despite the half decade… Continue Reading →

Cattle Decapitation – Terrasite (Metal Blade)

Cattle Decapitation couldn’t have released a better tenth album than this, the band has continually set benchmark after benchmark in death metal whether it has been their protogrind beginnings right to the obsidian darkness of the more progressive ‘Death Atlas’… Continue Reading →

Dead Chasm – Sublimis Ignotum Omni (F.D.A. Records)

Defiled – The Highest Level (Season Of Mist)

If you’ve never given Japan’s Defiled a listen then you should, as it is unusual to get such a brutal outfit emerging from the east side of the Pacific Ocean so much so that I waxed lyrically about the bands… Continue Reading →
