Rock and metal have been in my existence for about 30 years and saw me go through a rapid weaning period that covered AC/DC, Maiden, Saxon, Whitesnake, Motorhead, etc from about 1982 to 1984 before shifting to thrash in the summer of 1984. At that point my only mission was to find the fastest, most violent music on the planet resulting checking out every genre in extreme music from death metal and grindcore to crust punk and hardcore all of which I still adore today and buy albums from and go see live. During the 80s I grew up in the infamous Bradford thrash scene, a time I still dearly miss such was the inventiveness and great camaraderie it held. I’m a bit of phase metaller, going from one style to another, through sheer investigation of finding something new, but always sticking with them all. I’m a total sucker for double bass and blast beats and always will be no matter what genre it comes from. I absolutely detest people that have joined the metal scene because it is trendy or their mates like it, likewise I detest people who are shallow and think this music is a fad of growing up. Most of us are extremely well educated and articulate individuals who prefer freedom of self expression than indoctrination by mass media organisations hell bent on artistic sterilisation. Much of my cash is spent on following metal and I wouldn’t change a thing about it because it is the best music scene in the world.

Principality Of Hell – Fire & Brimstone (WTC)

Greek purveyors of black thrash domination have set out their mission to unleash upon the public savage black thrash from yesteryear, and with members of Thou Art Lord in their ranks, the credentials are certainly there. The production is as… Continue Reading →

Red Kunz – Teeth, Hair & Skin (Hummus Records)

I do like many of the releases that appear on underground independent labels, often run by bands themselves and Hummus records is very much like that. This promo I received is different, not a digital download, preferred by labels these… Continue Reading →

Doomed – Our Ruin Silhouettes (Solitude Productions)

A few years ago I reviewed this one man project’s second album of starkly despairing doom-death metal. Pierre Laube from Germany is the creative force behind Doomed, overseeing all aspects of artistic direction. Multi-instrumentalist, writer, layout designer and cover creator… Continue Reading →

Keitzer – The Last Defence (FDA Rekotz)

There used to be a time when bands attempted, to varying degrees of success, to be the most violent, pugnacious and fastest band on the planet. Back in the day albums were adorned with stickers staking claim to said pedestal… Continue Reading →

Rage Nucléaire – Black Storm Of Violence (Season Of Mist)

I had the unholy pleasure of reviewing this Canadian band’s debut, “Unrelenting Fucking Hatred”, a couple of years ago elsewhere and was utterly annihilated by that albums unending homicidal objectives. “Black Storm Of Violence” is an appropriate album title as… Continue Reading →

Demonic Resurrection – The Demon King (Candlelight)

Ever since I got this bands third album “The Return To Darkness” for review in another publication I have been hooked to their music completely and added to that their triumphant and staggering live performance at Bloodstock Open Air in… Continue Reading →

Violation Wound – S/T (Vic Records)

Not even a year after formation and Chris Reifert, he of Autopsy infamy, dons a guitar for this project of booze fuelled punk rock with subtle hints of metal on this debut full length. It can be dangerous to an… Continue Reading →

Monumentomb – Ritual Exhumation (S/R)

A foreboding chanted intro piece with fire crackling noises and other effects gives some sense as to the direction this UK band is expected to head with their debut offering. A grim but organic sound opens the title track and… Continue Reading →

Neige Morte – Bicephaale (Consouling Sounds)

Fucked up French black metal is virtually par for the course for this nation, when it comes to wreaking havoc on the unsuspected listener and Neige Morte do just that with their second full length. This is not easy music… Continue Reading →

Hades Archer / Slaughtbbath – Circus of Abominations / Antichristos Thanatos (Iron Bonehead)

A split from two acts from Chile shows what is involved when playing truly vitriolic black metal that involves no pissing about with keyboards or silly arrangements, just a straight forward malevolent annihilation that begins with Hades Archer’s blackened thrash… Continue Reading →

Malhkebre – Revelation (I, Voidhanger)

If it’s French and it’s black metal then it is bound to be strange, weird or even plain bizarre and whilst not as bizarre as some French black metal beasts out there it’s close enough to bamboozle the listener with… Continue Reading →

Whitechapel – Our Endless War (Metal Blade)

Five albums in and deathcore destructors Whitechapel hit us hard and heavily with an album that in reality should be better than this judging by the credentials and history on offer. As it turns out “Our Endless War” is a… Continue Reading →
