Your No. 1 Source For Extreme And Atmospheric Music And Film.

Author Martin Harris

Rock and metal have been in my existence for about 30 years and saw me go through a rapid weaning period that covered AC/DC, Maiden, Saxon, Whitesnake, Motorhead, etc from about 1982 to 1984 before shifting to thrash in the summer of 1984. At that point my only mission was to find the fastest, most violent music on the planet resulting checking out every genre in extreme music from death metal and grindcore to crust punk and hardcore all of which I still adore today and buy albums from and go see live. During the 80s I grew up in the infamous Bradford thrash scene, a time I still dearly miss such was the inventiveness and great camaraderie it held. I’m a bit of phase metaller, going from one style to another, through sheer investigation of finding something new, but always sticking with them all. I’m a total sucker for double bass and blast beats and always will be no matter what genre it comes from. I absolutely detest people that have joined the metal scene because it is trendy or their mates like it, likewise I detest people who are shallow and think this music is a fad of growing up. Most of us are extremely well educated and articulate individuals who prefer freedom of self expression than indoctrination by mass media organisations hell bent on artistic sterilisation. Much of my cash is spent on following metal and I wouldn’t change a thing about it because it is the best music scene in the world.

Bizarre – Invocation Codex (Transcending Obscurity)

Once again, this Indian label has picked up an exceptional death metal band to add to their roster, alongside their unique products that they always unveil for each of their releases. This Spanish bands rather innocuous moniker does not do… Continue Reading →

Wode, Live Burial & Mortuary Spawn – Manchester Star & Garter 16/10/21

It certainly makes a big difference travelling to Manchester on a weekend rather than the perils and jams of peak hour traffic on a weekday. The amount of traffic surrounding the Piccadilly area was very much unexpected however as a… Continue Reading →

Mulla – جن (Subsound Records)

Any band purporting to be from a country you wouldn’t expected metal, never mind extreme metal, from will always catch my attention. However, there is some controversy and debate as to whether this band actually does hail from Iraq as… Continue Reading →

Gozer, Ba’al, Helve and Sloth Hammer – Leeds Boom 12/10/21

With club gigs now taking off, UK bands are certainly piling on the number of tours now that the autumn has arrived, despite a fair number of international bands pulling the plug on their tours unfortunately. With a healthy turnout… Continue Reading →

Liktjern – I Ruiner (Folter Records)

Norwegian act Liktjern, whose name I think translates as Mortuary or to that effect, have not had it easy. Despite being in existence since the mid-90s the band only released one EP, ‘Kulde, Pest & Død’, and that came in… Continue Reading →

Venefixion – A Sigh From Below (Iron Bonehead Productions)

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to an album on the Iron Bonehead roster I didn’t enjoy as each of this French bands previous releases, a demo, EP and split, all on the same label, sees an escalation in sheer… Continue Reading →

Order – The Gospel (Listenable Records)

The rather innocuous sounding name from this Norwegian band, underestimates the power, ferocity and sheer primitive onslaught they have constructed. Within the ranks the pedigree is there for all to acknowledge, with members coming from acts such as Mayhem and… Continue Reading →

Vortex Of End – Abhorrent Fervor (Osmose Productions)

This French blackened death metal band has failed to cross my radar on their previous three albums which span over a decade, with their last effort, ‘Ardens Fvror’, making waves during 2019. There is something incalculably menacing and hideous about… Continue Reading →

Blightmass – Harbinger Of Lucidity (Grave Embrace Records)

Originally formed under the moniker of Purgatory Unleashed, this French/USA collaboration changed names to Blightmass in 2019 and previously released a couple of demos and a split before bombarding the world with their debut, ‘Severed From Your Soul’, under the… Continue Reading →

Emissary Of Suffering – Mournful Sights (Cold Knife Records)

Short, sharp, vicious and incendiary describes this debut effort by Emissary Of Suffering, who hail from Sweden. From what I can glean from the internet this act has been the formulation of two artists, Mattias Rasmusson and Nils Groth, both… Continue Reading →

Waldgeflüster – Dahoam (AOP Records)

This is a sixth album by this astoundingly good German atmospheric black metal band and like others acts in this field their ability to create palpable feeling and tangible emotion is breath-taking. It is also their second concept album, following… Continue Reading →

Runespell – Verses In Regicide (Iron Bonehead Productions)

You can’t judge a book by its cover the old saying states, which is what I did to some degree with this fourth album by Runespell headed up by multi-instrumentalist Nightwolf. My expectations for a feral black metal release were… Continue Reading →
