Having been bollocked by my old man for breaking his antique ‘stereogram’ with Ozzy’s ‘Bark At The Moon’ in 1984, I decided a life of metal worship was for me!
Likewise, after watching Zombie Flesheaters as a kid (early 80’s pre certification combined with an easily had over mum) and convincing myself that a zombie was more than likely in my wardrobe all night – a long and turbulent love affair with horror began. And I say turbulent as I regularly upset my horror geek mates by telling them Argento’s movies are all overrated shite. (You’d think they’d caught me fingering their mum when I tell them that).
I’m a big fan of thrash, death metal, and er….. proper 80’s poodle rock (love you Ratt) and Motorhead are the best band in the world.
Not a fan of tinny ‘recorded on a mono tape deck….. in a biscuit tin…… in the woods’ kvlt black metal.

Ursinne – Swim With The Leviathan (Transcending Obscurity Records)

Blimey, another belter from Transcending Obscurity Records here with the debut album from Ursinne. Right, for starters what’s an “Ursinne” and what’s this band all about? Well for starters “Ursinne” is a Swedish word for “rage” and the band is… Continue Reading →

Paganizer – Land Of Weeping Souls (Transcending Obscurity Records)

You can be as fancy and as hi-tech as you like but after fannying around with the latest fads, in the end you’ll go back to what you know. In a past life the Remmington 870 was my shotgun of… Continue Reading →

Logic Of Denial – Aftermath (Comatose Music)

I was due one. This is the third album from Italians, Logic of Denial and this brutal technical death metal band have produced a concept album based on the stages of grieving. Are your alarm bells ringing yet? Mine were….and… Continue Reading →

Father Befouled – Desolate Gods (Dark Descent)

It’s all very well playing fast and brutal, and indeed doing both things better than anyone else (like my beloved Cannibal Corpse), but sometimes you want a bit more…. “hideousness”,  a bit more “damp dungeon” a bit more “impending dread”… Continue Reading →

Akatharta – Spiritus Immundus (Pulverised Records)

Blimey, this is one scary record. Now, just like I’m not the biggest black metal fan (gloomy, shed burning, badger painted fairies) I’m not the biggest fan of doom metal either. With a few exceptions I tend to find it… Continue Reading →

Maim – Ornaments Of Severity (Soulseller Records)

I remember the first Maim album in 2009, mostly because I thought it had a brilliant title “From The Womb To The Tomb”. The music was bang on too. A mixture of early Dismember and Entrails with a hefty dollop… Continue Reading →

Kalopsia – Angelplague (Horror Pain Gore Death)

Right first things first, I thought “kalopsia” would be the name of some sort of bum-disease or something. But no. I was wrong. According to my dictionary in means “a state or delusion in which things appear more beautiful than… Continue Reading →

Interview – Dave Ingram (Audio)

“In a candid interview over a few beers, Mark Eve chats in depth with bona-fide death metal legend Dave Ingram.  Known for his unmistakeable vocal performances in bands such as Benediction, Bolt Thrower, Downlord, Echelon, Down Among The Dead Men… Continue Reading →

Nitrogods – Roadkill BBQ (Steamhammer)

This will be a short one. Nitrogods are German & sound (and look) like a Motorhead / ZZ Top covers band. Which of course, is not necessarily a bad thing. This is their third album of beer soaked, rock &… Continue Reading →

Warfist – Metal To The Bone (Godz Ov War Productions)

Warfist. I won’t lie, not being familiar with the band the first image that came into my head was a load of spotty inadequates, smelling of TCP sat round a table throwing dice and moving miniature wizards about. But no…. Continue Reading →

Fleshdoll – Heart Of Darkness (Great Dane Records)

I was quite taken with Fleshdoll’s fourth album “Blood Red District” when I reviewed it a couple of years ago so was chuffed to get this CD through the post and even more chuffed to hear it was an album… Continue Reading →

Firespawn – The Reprobate (Century Media)

If you’re not familiar with Firespawn then let me enlighten you. The band members are a veritable who’s who of Swedish death metal, featuring members of Unleashed, Entombed AD, Necrophobic & Skineater. As solid a pedigree as you’ll find in… Continue Reading →
