Having been bollocked by my old man for breaking his antique ‘stereogram’ with Ozzy’s ‘Bark At The Moon’ in 1984, I decided a life of metal worship was for me!
Likewise, after watching Zombie Flesheaters as a kid (early 80’s pre certification combined with an easily had over mum) and convincing myself that a zombie was more than likely in my wardrobe all night – a long and turbulent love affair with horror began. And I say turbulent as I regularly upset my horror geek mates by telling them Argento’s movies are all overrated shite. (You’d think they’d caught me fingering their mum when I tell them that).
I’m a big fan of thrash, death metal, and er….. proper 80’s poodle rock (love you Ratt) and Motorhead are the best band in the world.
Not a fan of tinny ‘recorded on a mono tape deck….. in a biscuit tin…… in the woods’ kvlt black metal.

Cannibal Corpse – Red Before Black (Metal Blade)

In the same way as Iron Maiden, Kiss & Motorhead, you know what you’re gonna get with a Cannibal Corpse album. Sadly, like the aforementioned legends ‘Corpse have their detractors, people that criticise the band for their consistency. However there’s… Continue Reading →

Bunker 66 – Chained Down In Dirt (High Roller Records)

If you’re not familiar with Bunker 66 they hail from Messina in Sicily and formed in 2007. “Chained Down In Dirt” is their third full length and the follow up to 2014’s “Screaming Rock Believers” now read that album title… Continue Reading →

Nihil Eyes – Black Path (S/R)

As a patriotic sort, I always get excited when a new UK death metal band sticks its head up. Now I appreciate that there are loads new bands from all over the world releasing albums left, right and centre but… Continue Reading →

Panzer – The Fatal Command (Nuclear Blast)

If you didn’t grab Panzer’s debut album “Send Them All To Hell” then have a quiet word with yourself over a stiff drink. It was one of the best heavy metal releases of 2014. A classic Teutonic power trio, Schmier… Continue Reading →

Meat Train – Random Acts Of Carnage (Contagion Records)

Meat Train’s 2013 debut “Flesh Made Man” was a cool record. From the eye catching cover art to the Londoners blend of filthy, primitive death metal the album was, for me at least a breath of pungent air and the… Continue Reading →

Necrovorous – Plains Of Decay (Dark Descent Records)

The drummer’s called …. “Shit Eater”. I could leave it right there really. But no, I’ll soldier on with this review of the second (NOT sophomore Stu) full-length of these Athens based death metallers. According to the promo blurb, Mr… Continue Reading →

Soul Remnants – Ouroboros (eOne)

I was lucky enough to review “Black and Blood”, Soul Remnants second album a long while ago. It was a total blast and a fine balance between classic old school thrashing death metal and more modern technical DM.  So when… Continue Reading →

Dynamite – Big Bang (Dynamite Productions)

Who likes AC/DC? Thought so. Pretty much all of you had a hand up then didn’t you? ….apart from that weird lad at the back with the skin tight “factory ripped” black jeans, lumberjack shirt, complicated hair and cultured beard…..fuck… Continue Reading →

Cannabis Corpse – Left Hand Pass (Season Of Mist)

I like pro-wrestling. I find it absurdly entertaining and, like any wrestling fan I have my favourite characters. One of those is The Undertaker.  “that’s all very well Mark you wanker, but this is supposed to be an album review… Continue Reading →

Incantation – Profane Nexus (Relapse)

There aren’t many bands like Incantation. For nearly thirty years they’ve been at the vanguard of the underground death metal scene and, to me at least, they’ve never disappointed. Sure some albums are better than others but I can honestly… Continue Reading →

Venom Inc. – Ave (Nuclear Blast)

There’s a school of thought that a certain section of the metal community subscribe to that says “No Cronos, no Venom”.  You will no doubt have experienced this way of thinking in the sentiments of the “No Dave, no Van… Continue Reading →

Blood Of Seklusion – Servants Of Chaos (FDA Records)

I wasn’t familiar with Blood of Seklusion prior to receiving this and having read the opening promo blurb that, rather confusingly stated “Swedish death metal from Italy” I started to frown and get a bit grumpy. Now Italy is famous… Continue Reading →
