Having been bollocked by my old man for breaking his antique ‘stereogram’ with Ozzy’s ‘Bark At The Moon’ in 1984, I decided a life of metal worship was for me!
Likewise, after watching Zombie Flesheaters as a kid (early 80’s pre certification combined with an easily had over mum) and convincing myself that a zombie was more than likely in my wardrobe all night – a long and turbulent love affair with horror began. And I say turbulent as I regularly upset my horror geek mates by telling them Argento’s movies are all overrated shite. (You’d think they’d caught me fingering their mum when I tell them that).
I’m a big fan of thrash, death metal, and er….. proper 80’s poodle rock (love you Ratt) and Motorhead are the best band in the world.
Not a fan of tinny ‘recorded on a mono tape deck….. in a biscuit tin…… in the woods’ kvlt black metal.

Roarback – Echoes Of Pain (Mighty Music)

Not the first country that springs to mind when you think of thrash metal is it? I mean yeah King Diamond is a legend and Artillery are a fine band ……. and some Napster suing dwarf drummer from Denmark did… Continue Reading →

Basement Torture Killings – A Night Of Brutal Torture (Grindscene Records)

How much of a disappointment is it when you look forward so much to a new album from a favourite band and they might as well have taken a big steaming dump on your chest? ‘St. Anger’, ‘Cold Lake’, ‘Nostradamus’… Continue Reading →

Interview – Smothered

There’s a lot of bullshit in metal these days, lots of samey sounding young bands with tattooed necks and ‘complicated’ haircuts who think it’s all about screaming over recycled riffs. Either that or going all ‘hippy-witchcraft’ on us, getting the… Continue Reading →

Bones – Sons Of Sleaze (Planet Metal)

These days a lot of what passes for metal is gutless (and nutless), processed, over produced bollocks. God forbid we should hear the drummer getting tired and making the odd mistake, nah we want it super perfect so we trigger… Continue Reading →

Scalpel – Sorrow And Skin (Sevared)

Scalpel’s “Sorrow and Skin” is a 10 track slab of brutal, gory death metal. This is the Massachusetts  band’s first full length LP coming three years after their debut ‘Common Threads’ EP. All the guys can obviously play their instruments… Continue Reading →

Derogatory – Above All Else (FDA Rekotz)

Another band new to these ears –  Derogatory  have released their nine track debut album on the ever reliable FDA Rekotz. Hailing from Los Angeles the band play traditional USDM and play it well! After a cheeky little acoustic intro… Continue Reading →

Smothered – The Inevitable End (Soulseller Records)

How often do you read a review of an album in the magazines / on the net and the words ‘sounds like (insert band name)’  or ‘this is a (insert band name) rip off’ pop up? Happens to me lots… Continue Reading →

Soul Remnants – Black And Blood (Horror Pain Gore Death Productions)

Soul Remnants  – I confess to being a bit ignorant of this Massachusetts 5 piece so when the CD landed on my mat I wasn’t sure what to expect…… what I didn’t expect was this absolute stonker of a record. … Continue Reading →

Deicide – In The Minds Of Evil (Century Media)

I do love a character… Just like Burzum & Varg (stabby / arsony / and, well, a bit of a Nazi…maybe)  Megadeth & Mustaine (guaranteed to say something bonkers at any moment / likes telling you how good he is… Continue Reading →

Satan’s Wrath – Aeons Of Satan’s Reign (Metal Blade)

Remember when life was simple? Remember when heavy metal was just, well, heavy metal? No internet but we had tape trading, Shades Records, Mega-Metal Kerrang, Sounds, bullet belts and pints of snakebite on a Friday night down Kings Nightclub in… Continue Reading →

Nekrofilth – Devil’s Breath (Hells Headbangers)

You know the difference between an electric shaver and a 50p packet of 10 disposable razors from Aldi? One has millions of dollars of R&D ploughed into it, designed to be the ‘ultimate shaving experience’, is supremely comfortable and won’t… Continue Reading →
