Having been bollocked by my old man for breaking his antique ‘stereogram’ with Ozzy’s ‘Bark At The Moon’ in 1984, I decided a life of metal worship was for me!
Likewise, after watching Zombie Flesheaters as a kid (early 80’s pre certification combined with an easily had over mum) and convincing myself that a zombie was more than likely in my wardrobe all night – a long and turbulent love affair with horror began. And I say turbulent as I regularly upset my horror geek mates by telling them Argento’s movies are all overrated shite. (You’d think they’d caught me fingering their mum when I tell them that).
I’m a big fan of thrash, death metal, and er….. proper 80’s poodle rock (love you Ratt) and Motorhead are the best band in the world.
Not a fan of tinny ‘recorded on a mono tape deck….. in a biscuit tin…… in the woods’ kvlt black metal.

Gouge – Beyond Death (Hells Headbangers)

Norwegian duo Gouge have been kicking out some proper grimy death metal since 2011 but this is only their second release (after 2012’s ‘Doomed To Death’ EP). You’d never know it though because this lot sound so confident and assured… Continue Reading →

Dehuman – Graveyard Of Eden (Kaotoxin)

This is the second (stop saying ‘sophomore’ you pretentious wankers) album from Belgian DM crew Dehuman and is quite an improvement over 2012’s ‘Black Throne of All Creation’. Relentless touring with the likes of Agathocles & Master has paid off… Continue Reading →

Putrid Offal – Mature Necropsy (Kaotoxin)

I like simple stuff. I’m no musician (I think my guitar teacher Jack would agree) and I can’t get into hyper technical metal. Stuff that gets guitar nerds worked up into a frothy mess tends to leave me cold. I… Continue Reading →

Bursa Lamb – Lambdroid’s Vengeance (Coyote Records)

Why me? Chances are you have no idea who Bursa Lamb are so I’m gonna just quote the opening line of the promo blah that comes with this, their debut album.…”Bursa Lamb is a killer death metal attack from Greece…”… Continue Reading →

Henriette B – Red Dawn Of Humanity (S/R)

Switzerland….. not the first thing you’d shout out on Family Fortunes if asked “Name a country known for producing some brilliant metal bands”. I mean yeah, you’ve got Celtic Frost, Coroner and er…. Krokus… but it’s not exactly a seething… Continue Reading →

Iron Lamb – Fools Gold (High Roller Records)

Right, let’s get one thing straight… Motorhead are the best band there ever was or will be. That’s just my opinion of course but if you disagree then you’re simply wrong. I reckon the Swedish rockers in Iron Lamb might… Continue Reading →

Napalm Death – Apex Predator – Easy Meat (Century Media)

There are some that think Napalm should’ve knocked it on the head back in 1989 after the ‘Mentally Murdered’ EP. That Napalm Death is now a covers band & that anything from ‘Harmony Corruption’ onwards is shit. These people (thankfully… Continue Reading →

The Crown – Death Is Not Dead (Century Media)

The history of The Crown is a bit complicated. Suffice to say the Swedish death/thrash band have had their share of line up changes and split up in 2004 when original (and best) vocalist Johan Lindstrand buggered off to form… Continue Reading →

Ingested – The Architect Of Extinction (Century Media)

There are only really two horses in the race to be the kings of British brutal death metal. Bristol’s Amputated released their third LP a year or so ago and it was a killer record and here we have Manchester… Continue Reading →

Chapel Of Disease – The Mysterious Ways Of Repetitive Art (FDA Rekotz)

2012’s debut ‘Summoning Black Gods’ was an absolute smasher and now the German death metal crew are back with another killer record ‘The Mysterious Ways Of Repetitive Art’. On this album the band have clearly matured and have developed a… Continue Reading →

Hooded Menace – Gloom Immemorial (Doomentia)

Whilst being nowhere near the likes of Nunslaughter in the ‘fuck me, how many releases? How am I gonna ever own all that?’ stakes, Finnish atmospheric doom / death titans Hooded Menace still have a respectable smattering of super-limited edition… Continue Reading →

Decimation – Reign Of Ungodly Creation (Comatose Music)

Sometimes this reviewing lark can be a bit dull, another brutal tech death band I thought. This’ll be a load of impossible to remember blasting / pig squealing tripe I thought. A few listens later though and I realised brutal… Continue Reading →
