My introduction to Metal and all things alternative came at the age of 11. I was already beginning to enjoy music and was soon pointed in the direction of Iron Maiden and Motorhead. A love of music developed from here delving into all manner of genres over the years as well as regularly attending gigs. By the time I was 16 I moved onto the heavier side of the Metallic die. It was at this point that I also wanted to give something back to the music world, I'd already failed at playing an instrument and so looked to reviewing. I started a YouTube channel in 2010 under the name ThatzNOTmetaL and over the next 5 years created a wealth of content, my music taste however was still expanding. After numerous changes and so forth I diversified into written media via a short lived e-zine called Eargore which in 2016 became a blog called Gore Crazy. Over the years I've learnt a lot about music and reviewing in general, so really I've now got my wish to give something back to the world of music that I adore.

Gatecreeper – Dark Superstition (Nuclear Blast)

Newsflash, Death Metal is cool again guys! Bands like 200 Stab Wounds, Frozen Soul, Fuming Mouth and Celestial Sanctuary appear to be paving some sort of new way. Towing a line between the modern and extremely popular Hardcore scene and… Continue Reading →

Darkthrone – It Beckons Us All……. (Peaceville)

If you don’t know Darkthrone then I suggest before reading this review you go and do some research because trying to plot their history here would probably be a boring exercise for you to read. The basics are that they… Continue Reading →

Deicide – Banished By Sin (Reigning Phoenix Music)

Kind of an interesting one to be reviewing following the controversy surrounding this album’s alleged AI artwork. A separate issue to the music perhaps but not a great start. A band like Deicide absolutely can and should support artists to… Continue Reading →

Replicant – Infinite Mortality (Transcending Obscurity)

Formed in 2014 New Jersey based Tech/ Avant-Garde Death Metallers Replicant have gently bubbled along. The name is familiar but I have to confess this is my first delving into their discography. However, being the Brutal Death nerd I am,… Continue Reading →

Vulture – Sentinels (Metal Blade)

In recent years there has been a big glut of worship bands, mostly I would say in the realms of Death Metal and Heavy Metal. A number of years prior there was also that big Thrash boom with bands like… Continue Reading →

Ingested – The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams (Metal Blade)

So, Jay Evans calls himself the Slam King does he? Well, in my friendship group I’m also referred to as the Slam King, so it only seems fitting for me to take on this review. I’m much like many BDM… Continue Reading →

Brodequin – Harbinger Of Woe (Season Of Mist)

Having formed back in 1998 it could be said that Brodequin are one of the true pioneers of Brutal Death Metal, if only their debut Instruments Of Torture had come out sooner than 2000. I think it would be a… Continue Reading →

Aborted – Vault Of Horrors (Nuclear Blast)

Perhaps one of the bigger faces of modern Death Metal are Aborted. From their destructive debut The Purity Of Perversion to their classic Goremageddon and beyond, they have proven their worth time and time again. They’re a band who also… Continue Reading →

Skeletal Remains – Fragments Of The Ageless (Century Media)

Some bands kind of blow up a bit and then you don’t really hear that much about them despite the fact their output is still consistent, strange really. Such is the case for Skeletal Remains, when I heard Devouring Mortality… Continue Reading →

Morta Skuld – Creation Undone (Peaceville)

I guess you get it with every genre of music but I always find it strange how odd albums from seemingly underground bands go on to become so highly regarded. Dying Remains by Morta Skuld is such a case. You… Continue Reading →

Ihsahn – Ihsahn (Candlelight)

Hot take, some Ihsahn solo material is better than Emperor, there I said it. Of course being a most notable and prominent figure of the Black Metal scene Ihsahn can be seen as a bit of a dividing force amongst… Continue Reading →

Morbid Saint – Swallowed By Hell (High Roller Records)

A quick bit of research can help put to rest the alleged claims that Morbid Saint toured with Death, which ironically is what they have garnered a degree of their cult following from. In actuality the band only played a… Continue Reading →
