My introduction to Metal and all things alternative came at the age of 11. I was already beginning to enjoy music and was soon pointed in the direction of Iron Maiden and Motorhead. A love of music developed from here delving into all manner of genres over the years as well as regularly attending gigs. By the time I was 16 I moved onto the heavier side of the Metallic die. It was at this point that I also wanted to give something back to the music world, I'd already failed at playing an instrument and so looked to reviewing. I started a YouTube channel in 2010 under the name ThatzNOTmetaL and over the next 5 years created a wealth of content, my music taste however was still expanding. After numerous changes and so forth I diversified into written media via a short lived e-zine called Eargore which in 2016 became a blog called Gore Crazy. Over the years I've learnt a lot about music and reviewing in general, so really I've now got my wish to give something back to the world of music that I adore.

Benighted – Dogs Always Bite Harder Than Their Master (Season Of Mist)

Some artists seem cursed to linger upon the precipice of success, the lustful ear of total domination is but a hair’s breadth away. How must it feel to be linked with this desperate struggle? I imagine it to be rather… Continue Reading →

Terrorizer – Caustic Attack (The End)

When the status of legendary is bestowed upon a band there are all manner of complications. Although this undying crown brings popularity and bravado it also brings expectation and critique. Many a band has released a stand out testament to… Continue Reading →

Deathhammer- Chained To Hell (Hells Headbangers)

What is Metal? In general that is, no longer can one refer to Black Sabbath as the sound of Metal because there are simply too many offshoots (and being a totally anal loser Black Sabbath are actually Doom Metal). For… Continue Reading →

Dakhma – Hamkar Atonement (Iron Bonehead)

Is there anything more Metal than subject matter pulled from ancient religious texts? Probably not and in the times of the present this brand of unholy scripture is prime subject matter for the forward progression of Metals chaos fuelled underground…. Continue Reading →

Binah – Phobiate (Osmose)

To play live or not that is the question, artists not choosing to play their music in a live setting is no new idea. Rather famously the Black Metal scene is littered with solo projects and underground bands not wishing… Continue Reading →

Horrendous – Idol (Season Of Mist)

My love of Prog Rock has doubled over the past few weeks, upon researching Caravan tour dates it suddenly dawned upon me that if I don’t seize the opportunity to watch these legends of old now I may never get… Continue Reading →

Iskandr – Euprosopon (Eisenwald)

Black Metal, the header to a never-dwindling, ever-expanding stream of sub-genres for better or for worse. Being the tag fiend that I am I very much enjoy ticking all the genre boxes, much to the dismay of my itunes library… Continue Reading →

Vreid – Lifehunger (Season Of Mist)

Tragedy naturally hits everyone at some point in their life, yet it is equally natural that a similar sort of tragedy should strike artists also. The icy grip of death has no limitations, taking from us legends, visionaries and pioneers… Continue Reading →

Aborted – TerrorVision (Century Media)

Band names in Metal are always something to stir up a little bit of shock, laughter or amazement in the workplace. The general conversation being something along the lines of “so who are you going to see tonight?” this will… Continue Reading →

Archgoat – The Luciferian Crown (Debemur Morti)

We all set out with our Metal virginity and naivety intact, chipping away at each of them from genre to genre. I remember vividly my first exposure to Cradle Of Filth, I sat there and laughed because I simply couldn’t… Continue Reading →

Deicide – Overtures Of Blasphemy (Century Media)

Classic is a word that gets chucked around an awful lot these days with many people claiming various, generally unheard of albums as undeniable testaments to Metal’s history. Sure enough bands may well be influential in their own right but… Continue Reading →

Grisly – The Spectral Wars (Xtreem)

To quote the vastly talented tattoo artist Curly Moore “addiction implies a lack of control” alas bringing this theory into the practice of my own Death Metal lusts I fear that control is at my folly. Try as I might… Continue Reading →
