My introduction to Metal and all things alternative came at the age of 11. I was already beginning to enjoy music and was soon pointed in the direction of Iron Maiden and Motorhead. A love of music developed from here delving into all manner of genres over the years as well as regularly attending gigs. By the time I was 16 I moved onto the heavier side of the Metallic die. It was at this point that I also wanted to give something back to the music world, I'd already failed at playing an instrument and so looked to reviewing. I started a YouTube channel in 2010 under the name ThatzNOTmetaL and over the next 5 years created a wealth of content, my music taste however was still expanding. After numerous changes and so forth I diversified into written media via a short lived e-zine called Eargore which in 2016 became a blog called Gore Crazy. Over the years I've learnt a lot about music and reviewing in general, so really I've now got my wish to give something back to the world of music that I adore.

In Shadows And Dust – Enlightened By Darkness (Redefining Darkness)

At the beginnings of Black Metal, most specifically within the Norwegian lands the collaboration of both Black and Death Metal would likely be seen as drastically abhorrent despite several bands in the scene showing a close allegiance to the genre… Continue Reading →

Opprobrium – The Fallen Entities (High Roller)

If you’re anything like me then you’ll enjoy the history of genres and music in general. I love a good discussion on the sort of ‘what came first’ theories, where do genres begin? Why the sudden leap? For example look… Continue Reading →

Funereal Presence – Achatius (Sepulchral Voice)

Can genres ever really be reborn? I certainly believe so, after all I am a firm believer that genres never really die, there will always be someone out there drawing at least a small influence from a whole plethora of… Continue Reading →

Asphodelus – Stygian Dreams (Terror From Hell)

Doom Metal, arguably the oldest of all the Metal genres. If you look back even before Black Sabbath there is a wide range of Proto-Metal bands in the vein of Blue Cheer and Vanilla Fudge touching upon the beginnings of… Continue Reading →

Electrocution – Psychonolatry (Goregorecords)

Genre flooding is nothing new, since the very dawn of recorded music and likely even prior there has been surges and waves of certain styles pummelling the eardrums of listeners like an audible tsunami. Yet the prevalence of this is… Continue Reading →

Finis Omnivm – Cercle (S/R)

Bands that are seen as genre-defying naturally tend to stick in our minds. For me as a complete genre Nazi I strangely adore when bands defy being put into a box because it gives me as a reviewer so much… Continue Reading →

Agrypnie – Grenzænger / Pavor Nocturnus (Supreme Chaos Records)

The term Post in music, for example Post-Punk, has developed greatly over the years. It’s a strange genre to try and describe but if you know, you know. Think of Post as an often dystopian, modernist or perhaps even experimental… Continue Reading →

Ossuarium – Living Tomb (20 Buck Spin)

Death Metal is by the very nature of its name linked to all things repugnant. Yet does this always have to come from cascading slasher style shock value? Arguably no, the genre may have been well rounded and defined by… Continue Reading →

Perverticon – Wounds Of Divinity (Iron Bonehead)

Recently I have been reading the most sacred tome on the subject of Black Metal that is Lords Of Chaos written by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind. This may come as a surprise but it is my first read through… Continue Reading →

Hecate Enthroned – Embrace Of The Godless Aeon (M –Theory Audio)

Extreme Metal is a funny term, much like Viking Metal and Alternative Metal it is a bit of a non-genre. By that I mean that it has no real annotations pointing to distinct features. Death Metal, Black Metal or even… Continue Reading →

Malevolent Creation – The 13th Beast (Century Media)

I’m sure all reading this review have at some point in their lives faced bullying, opposition and overall ridicule for their taste in music, the way they present themselves and extra-curricular hobbies, I know I have. Yet sometimes you take… Continue Reading →

Barshasketh – S/T (World Terror Committee)

Most genres I tend to revel in all year round no matter the weather or temperament. Yet there is one that speaks to me mainly in the cold and frostbitten months, Black Metal. Befitting its sound and overall aura nothing… Continue Reading →
