My introduction to Metal and all things alternative came at the age of 11. I was already beginning to enjoy music and was soon pointed in the direction of Iron Maiden and Motorhead. A love of music developed from here delving into all manner of genres over the years as well as regularly attending gigs. By the time I was 16 I moved onto the heavier side of the Metallic die. It was at this point that I also wanted to give something back to the music world, I'd already failed at playing an instrument and so looked to reviewing. I started a YouTube channel in 2010 under the name ThatzNOTmetaL and over the next 5 years created a wealth of content, my music taste however was still expanding. After numerous changes and so forth I diversified into written media via a short lived e-zine called Eargore which in 2016 became a blog called Gore Crazy. Over the years I've learnt a lot about music and reviewing in general, so really I've now got my wish to give something back to the world of music that I adore.

Saint Vitus – Saint Vitus (Season Of Mist)

Doom, pretty much where it all started. I’m not just talking about Black Sabbath I’m talking about a whole host of Proto-Metal bands, Blue Cheer, Vanilla Fudge, Iron Butterfly these bands utilised the essence of mass distortion. This very facet… Continue Reading →

Lice – Woe Betide You (Season Of Mist)

Black Metal has a way of worming its way into all manner of other subgenres, almost unlike any other Metal subgenre. I’ve seen Blackened Hardcore, Black Noise, Blackgaze Post-Black Metal the list is frankly endless. I think in part this… Continue Reading →

Possessed – Revelations Of Oblivion (Nuclear Blast)

Being responsible for creating a genre is a pretty big burden. People expect a lot from you, and after all why should they not? However often these bands can equally be overshadowed by more contemporary bands or at least those… Continue Reading →

Body Harvest – Parasitic Slavery (Comatose Music)

Seeing home grown talent is always pleasing, and by home grown in this case I mean country grown. There seems to be a good swelling of bands coming from the UK’s underground recently, most notably for me would be Raised… Continue Reading →

Deiphago – I, The Devil (Hells Headbangers)

Blackened Death Metal, can there be a more pure genre? A marriage of perfect proportions bringing together all that is good from the underground and merging these two scenes in seamless harmony. However I can’t say I’ve always been the… Continue Reading →

Vargrav – Reign In Supreme Darkness (Werewolf Records)

As we move ever closer to the summer months I find my adoration for Black Metal and Blackened music dwindling. Essentially I am like a Metal tortoise, in the sun I flourish with the brighter more energetic tones of Death,… Continue Reading →

Ossuaire – Premiers Chants (Sepulchral Productions)

Ever since I’ve been into Extreme Metal I’ve known about and enjoyed Black Metal, in fact one of the first Extreme Metal albums I ever purchased was Transilvanian Hunger. I’d even go as far as to say that the genre… Continue Reading →

Protector – Summon The Hordes (High Roller)

If anything is ever labelled as cult (or kvlt) it generally means I will like it. That goes for things outside of music also, for example film. I’m a huge advocate for underground horror cinema in the vein of Troma… Continue Reading →

Embludgeonment – Barn Burner (Comatose)

Recently me and my partner had an all out weekend of gigs comprising of Rap, Noise, Powerviolence, Ska, Punk and so forth, needless to say it was pretty varied. Now they say variety is the spice of life but here… Continue Reading →

Doombringer – Walpurgis Fires (Nuclear War Now)

Most people like their drive to work to be complemented by the radio or probably some album of an easy listening calibre. As one slogs into their daily job pre-coffee and possibly devoid of breakfast there is probably nothing they… Continue Reading →

Sacrilegia – The Triclavian Advent (Invictus)

One thing that really appeals to me is Black Thrash Metal, being a long time fan of early Punk Rock, and a fair bit of modern Punk for that matter I have a desire for the whole sloppy, no cares… Continue Reading →

Oltretomba – The Horror – Figure Del Terrore (Moribund)

Are the theatrics of Black Metal dead? It’s a question I often ask myself. The early days had the raw untamed grimness of real life horrors, arson, murder and so forth. Then came the more mainstream times with big pompous… Continue Reading →
