My introduction to Metal and all things alternative came at the age of 11. I was already beginning to enjoy music and was soon pointed in the direction of Iron Maiden and Motorhead. A love of music developed from here delving into all manner of genres over the years as well as regularly attending gigs. By the time I was 16 I moved onto the heavier side of the Metallic die. It was at this point that I also wanted to give something back to the music world, I'd already failed at playing an instrument and so looked to reviewing. I started a YouTube channel in 2010 under the name ThatzNOTmetaL and over the next 5 years created a wealth of content, my music taste however was still expanding. After numerous changes and so forth I diversified into written media via a short lived e-zine called Eargore which in 2016 became a blog called Gore Crazy. Over the years I've learnt a lot about music and reviewing in general, so really I've now got my wish to give something back to the world of music that I adore.

Hellsodomy – Morbid Cult (Saturnal)

Much like any other scene or even fandom for the wider entertainment spectrum Metal is vastly unknown to outsiders. It’s strikingly comical in fact just how little people know about the genre. I mean take the somewhat recent Tool outbursts… Continue Reading →

Ofdrykkja – Gryningsvisor (Art Of Propaganda)

It can be pretty easy as a Metalhead to lose sight of just how silly the genre appears to outsiders. Songs about Satan, murder, dragons and more is perhaps a snapshot of what the non-Metalhead sees, but is it really… Continue Reading →

Into Coffin – Unconquered Abysses (Terror From Hell)

I’m not the sort of person to do things by halves, if I’m into something then I’m into it in a big way. Again, this can be a detriment as I can often times become caught up in my own… Continue Reading →

Cattle Decapitation – Death Atlas (Metal Blade)

Bands can often times linger in the background and then suddenly explode. The danger of this of course is that the bar becomes very highly set thereafter and each release becomes an awaited and anticipated hype that often times won’t… Continue Reading →

Lord Mantis – Universal Death Church (Profound Lore)

Everything in Metal has been done, and with the rise of online streaming services and the ability to distribute music for free via downloads etc the internet has become a haven for the weird. Often times I will find myself… Continue Reading →

Cryptic Brood – Outcome Of Obnoxious Science (War Anthem Records)

We all have those funny tales and memories to recount from gigs, and thus I shall regal you with one now. Once upon a time me and a friend decided to visit Berlin to watch Amenra with a show comprising… Continue Reading →

The Deathtrip – Demon Solar Temple (Svart)

Life for me right now is great and of the many aspects that are so great one would be my recent indulgence with the occult. I’ve always been fascinated by ancient religions and occult teachings. I mean if you’re into… Continue Reading →

Hideous Divinity – Simulacrum (Century Media)

Do you ever hate on bands for the lamest reasons? Well not so much hate but perhaps not care for. In a very ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ sense we all have preconceived judgements when it comes to… Continue Reading →

Interview – Cattle Decapitation

Prior to a rousing show at The Bread Shed in Manchester and anticipating forthcoming album Death Atlas via Metal Blade Records, George Caley sat down to chew the cud with Travis Ryan of Cattle Decapitation. AN: Evening so I noticed… Continue Reading →

Cattle Decapitation, Osiah & Old Wharf – The Bread Shed Manchester 01/11/19

Coming from sleepy Suffolk the north is like some sort of mythical land. Although that said I do have a good friend up there whom I visit when I can, normally for gigs and general drinking frivolity. In an… Continue Reading →

Cannabis Corpse – Nug So Vile (Season Of Mist)

I’ve always been a bit of a fan of parody in film, Austin Powers, Kung Pow, Dewey Cox all heavy hitters upon my list of top movies of all time. But we’re not here to discuss the silver screen, we’re… Continue Reading →

Paganizer – The Tower Of The Morbid (Transcending Obscurity)

I find it kind of funny that whilst Metal as a whole is the beating heart of the underground it is massively popular, I mean look at Wacken, Hellfest and to a lesser extent Download, these are hugely successful gatherings…. Continue Reading →
