My introduction to Metal and all things alternative came at the age of 11. I was already beginning to enjoy music and was soon pointed in the direction of Iron Maiden and Motorhead. A love of music developed from here delving into all manner of genres over the years as well as regularly attending gigs. By the time I was 16 I moved onto the heavier side of the Metallic die. It was at this point that I also wanted to give something back to the music world, I'd already failed at playing an instrument and so looked to reviewing. I started a YouTube channel in 2010 under the name ThatzNOTmetaL and over the next 5 years created a wealth of content, my music taste however was still expanding. After numerous changes and so forth I diversified into written media via a short lived e-zine called Eargore which in 2016 became a blog called Gore Crazy. Over the years I've learnt a lot about music and reviewing in general, so really I've now got my wish to give something back to the world of music that I adore.

Necrowretch – The Ones From Hell (Season Of Mist)

For many years I had a purist outlook on Blackened Death Metal, it was a mix that I didn’t really enjoy. Mainly it’s sad to say for the Black Metal element. Whilst I’ve always been a fan of Black Metal… Continue Reading →

Faustian Pact – Outojen Tornien Varjoissa (Werewolf Records)

I find the history of Black Metal perhaps the most interesting musical uprising out of any genre. This is a movement that delves into all areas of depravity and destruction. It could even perhaps be described as scary, and yet… Continue Reading →

Svart Crown – Wolves Among The Ashes (Century Media)

There are always those bands that you just never get around to checking out. Someone can bang on and on about an artist and you still won’t relent. Sometimes even when you do relent you still don’t ‘get it’. I… Continue Reading →

Gorevent – Fate (Comatose)

Asia is a real hive of Extreme Metal activity, and more precisely Slam, Brutal Death and Goregrind. From Butcher ABC to Vomit Remnants, Glossectomy and beyond Asia has become a prime spot for this kind of barbarity. Why? Well of… Continue Reading →

Bütcher – 666 Goats Carry My Chariot (Osmose)

Do we ever stop musically evolving? Yes and no, I think that there are certainly those who stagnate and cease to indulge in anything new in as much as even later albums from the bands they enjoy. Yet to counter… Continue Reading →

Blasphemer – The Sixth Hour (Candlelight)

Do you ever get bands that just remind you of a time? I mean I guess that’s nostalgia, but I’m talking bands that may not have had a great impact on you but were just there, lurking in the shadows…. Continue Reading →

Acid Mammoth – Under Acid Hoof (Heavy Psych)

I’m forever trying to expand my music tastes. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not. I might go on a week long binge of Avant-Garde Opera only to find one that really sticks (Check out Le Grand Macabre by György Ligeti). Alas sometimes… Continue Reading →

Svarttjern – Shame Is Just A Word (Soulseller)

It might be a new year but it’s still winter, long may it reign! For in the colder months my lust for Black Metal grows. I’m like a Corpse-painted hibernating animal who only emerges to the sound of Battles In… Continue Reading →

Vomit Fist – Omnicide (S/R)

Grindcore, the joke that it’s funny to laugh at two second songs never seems to cease to get a reaction. Indeed, due to this and being a bit of a miserable bugger I often scoffed at the genre in the… Continue Reading →

Kommando Baphomet – Blood Gospels Of Satanic Inquisition (Godz Ov War)

Often times I think that if I had a shred of musical talent or indeed had any intention of playing music then I would front a War Metal band. I can’t think of anything more visceral than the Blackened Death… Continue Reading →

Haxandraok – KI SI KIL UD DA KAR RA (Van)

Sometimes I watch bands live or hear a song or record and just think ‘what is the point in this?’ Truthfully, I find a disdain for anything that isn’t trying to at least tread some new ground, even if that… Continue Reading →

Nightbearer – Tales Of Sorcery And Death (Testimony)

Metal is nerd music, I don’t think I fully trust ‘cool’ Metalheads. That sounds stupid I know because everyone’s description of ‘cool’ differs but what I mean is most people into Metal are into other extracurricular nerd hobbies, whether that… Continue Reading →
