My introduction to Metal and all things alternative came at the age of 11. I was already beginning to enjoy music and was soon pointed in the direction of Iron Maiden and Motorhead. A love of music developed from here delving into all manner of genres over the years as well as regularly attending gigs. By the time I was 16 I moved onto the heavier side of the Metallic die. It was at this point that I also wanted to give something back to the music world, I'd already failed at playing an instrument and so looked to reviewing. I started a YouTube channel in 2010 under the name ThatzNOTmetaL and over the next 5 years created a wealth of content, my music taste however was still expanding. After numerous changes and so forth I diversified into written media via a short lived e-zine called Eargore which in 2016 became a blog called Gore Crazy. Over the years I've learnt a lot about music and reviewing in general, so really I've now got my wish to give something back to the world of music that I adore.

Soulburn – Noa’s D’ark (Century Media)

Having ties to bigger bands can sometimes be a great thing, it might give your band the leg up they need, however it can also be a detriment if your music sucks. Rise To Remain spring to mind here, the… Continue Reading →

Macabre – Carnival Of Killers (Nuclear Blast)

It’s a pretty common thing I guess but do you ever have those bands that you just don’t like? You can’t put your finger on it, everything musically falls into place but you just don’t get it. For the longest… Continue Reading →

MRTVI – Omniscient Hallucinatory Delusion (Transcending Obscurity)

Black Metal should be fertile ground for experimentation and oddity. In a lot of ways it kind of is, but then on the other hand it’s so ‘kvlt’ and ‘trve’ that fans hate on absolutely everything else that isn’t Mayhem…. Continue Reading →

Autopsy – Live In Chicago (Peaceville)

We all have certain albums that had a huge impact on us, Severed Survival is one of mine. Aged around fifteen I walked into a closing down sale at a record shop in my local town. Hidden behind a load… Continue Reading →

Coexistence – Collateral Dimension (Transcending Obscurity)

On my co-hosted radio show Dark Tryal (live every Sunday from 21:00 on TotalRock, shameless self-promotion) it has become a running joke that I only listen to Prog Death Metal. I’m not really sure where this idea has stemmed from… Continue Reading →

Distant – Dawn Of Corruption (Unique Leader)

Deathcore, like it or loathe it it’s surely here to stay. I have a divided opinion on the genre myself, is it good? I’m not sure. I know for a fact that there are some killer albums in the genre… Continue Reading →

Benediction – Scriptures (Nuclear Blast)

I think that the UK Death Metal scene is oddly underrated, yeah sure we’ve got Napalm Death and Bolt Thrower but behind all that there is so much more. What about Gorerotted, Cancer, and Desecrator. More recently we’ve seen bands… Continue Reading →

Incinerate – Sacrilegivm (Comatose Music)

Back in 2009 I was still a fresh face to BDM and still had much to shock me. Now nothing surprises me now, miserable I know. However, it’s true, you kind of get to a point where brutality and shock… Continue Reading →

Repuked – Dawn Of Reintoxication (Soulseller)

I like my Death Metal naughty, full of gore and pulled straight from an 80s video nasty. I mean that’s not strictly true I am a big fan of Tech and Prog Death too. For the most part though I… Continue Reading →

Johansson & Speckmann – The Germs Of Circumstance (Soulseller Records)

Metal is full of hard-working individuals. Let’s face it most people who work in the industry probably seldom see a penny. Even artists whom we deem as pioneers most likely struggle to make a living or have day jobs to… Continue Reading →

Gorephilia – In The Eye Of Nothing (Dark Descent)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, how are people not into Death Metal! There is literally something for everyone, well at least if you’re into Extreme Metal. It’s so expansive and I don’t even fully see that… Continue Reading →
