My introduction to Metal and all things alternative came at the age of 11. I was already beginning to enjoy music and was soon pointed in the direction of Iron Maiden and Motorhead. A love of music developed from here delving into all manner of genres over the years as well as regularly attending gigs. By the time I was 16 I moved onto the heavier side of the Metallic die. It was at this point that I also wanted to give something back to the music world, I'd already failed at playing an instrument and so looked to reviewing. I started a YouTube channel in 2010 under the name ThatzNOTmetaL and over the next 5 years created a wealth of content, my music taste however was still expanding. After numerous changes and so forth I diversified into written media via a short lived e-zine called Eargore which in 2016 became a blog called Gore Crazy. Over the years I've learnt a lot about music and reviewing in general, so really I've now got my wish to give something back to the world of music that I adore.

Colossus – Degenesis (Comatose)

There’s a part of me that gets very excited when I see new releases from Comatose. I’ve been a huge fan of the label for years and years and now that I get to review their stuff, that’s pretty exciting…. Continue Reading →

Kommando Baphomet – Under The Deathsign (Godz Ov War)

So back in 2019 I was a bit more of a fresh face to War Metal, fresh in as much as I’d taken more of an interest in the genre. I’d got into the classics and taken my time to… Continue Reading →

StarGazer – Psychic Secretions (Nuclear War Now)

Black Metal is a weird one for me, especially the ‘Avant-Garde’. Often that tag can mean pretentious, lacklustre or quite frankly just a complete mess. I’ve heard ‘experimental’ types in this field many times, and often with poor results. That… Continue Reading →

Asphyx – Necroceros (Century Media)

Having a legendary status is surely both a boon and a hindrance. Naturally it means that you’ve achieved a huge goal but at the same time the pressure is always going to be greater. What happens if you don’t deliver?… Continue Reading →

Deeds Of Flesh – Nucleus (Unique Leader)

I promise I don’t just listen to Tech/ Brutal Death Metal. I’m known in some circles as the Slam King a title which I would claim above Ingested (sorry Jay Evans). However, there is more to me than the Slam…. Continue Reading →

Focal Dystonia – Descending (In)Human Flesh (Comatose Music)

Slam is far too influenced by outside resources these days. I mean I love Tech, I don’t mind (or at least tolerate) Deathcore and I can see why bands want to try something new. That said I really think Slam… Continue Reading →

Wombbath – Tales Of Madness (Transcending Obscurity)

Metal is kind of funny in the sense that everything is labelled as ‘essential’ or ‘ground-breaking’ or ‘a masterpiece’. “Have you ever heard this 90s Black Metal demo that only three people have heard? It’s essential listening!”. The truth of… Continue Reading →

Undergang – Aldrig I Livet (Dark Descent / Me Saco Un Ojo Records)

I adore the fact that so many OSDM bands are cropping up nowadays, it feels like being a part of the 90s scene, which as someone born in 93 is a pleasure to get the chance to experience for myself…. Continue Reading →

Gama Bomb – Sea Savage (Prosthetic Records)

Around the early to mid 00s we saw a slew of Thrash bands popping up, Municipal Waste, Toxic Holocaust, Evile, Bonded By Blood and our subject for today Gama Bomb. That’s just the tip of the iceberg too, there were… Continue Reading →

Revolting – The Shadow At The World’s End (Transcending Obscurity)

The title for this album isn’t a reference to The World’s End pub in Camden, the only shadow there is the dark gloom that takes over your face when you see the bill. No, this album is another little bite… Continue Reading →

Contrarian – Only Time Will Tell (Willowtip)

Tech Death is a little bit like the early days of Prog Rock. Each band appears hell bent on outdoing the next, I guess that’s just music for you in general but in this case it’s very apt. There has… Continue Reading →

Hjelvik – Welcome To Hel (Nuclear Blast)

Bands pass us all by, but some continue to do so, one such band for me would be Kvelertak. Never have I thought that the band were bad, I even saw them live supporting Slayer but still I never really… Continue Reading →
