This is a debut release from Finland (there are other bands of the band name), that’s raw and heralds the early North East England NWoBHM scene in approach and production. Take a pinch of Avenger (perhaps a nod to the band name?), Warfare and going further around the country Tank, mix with female vocals and a youthful sense of urgency, and you have Blood Sport.

The band thought there wasn’t enough Speed Metal in the scene, you can never have too much of course. The Mini-LP has 5 tracks, all kind of merge into one in quick succession. My only main gripe if the drum sounds very quiet in the mix. The chorus to ‘Niterider’ doesn’t hark to Judas Priest and Venom, oh, that’s a frightening concept isn’t it, with a maiden riff included at the end of the track. ‘Machine Gun’ fires from the start, whilst ‘Steel System’ hammers the pull off riffs you hear from early speed metal through the mill, with some nice added harmonisation from the guitars. ‘Agitator’ add some rock & roll swagger delivered at breakneck speed. This continues with ‘Blood Sports’ that adds a vibe akin to the bastard trio of Lemmy, Phil and Eddie and early thrash.

Perhaps if truth be told, this is a vinyl release and I am listening to a digital version, so this could explain a few things. There is some great music, but I generally feel there is more that can come out of the production. As the music goes, it’s a great sound and a vigorous listening experience. Just for the record, the band state they will never soften their sound, let’s hope not!
