We can fully appreciate that it can be boring answering lots of interview questions when all you want to do is make music or get loaded. Of course when you are signed to a bigger label, a position many a hard working group would give their very soul for, it’s an unfortunate part of the territory if you want to succeed and stay signed and have people buy your albums. We were therefore somewhat surprised to receive answers back from Satan’s Wrath who perhaps through the haze of a crack pipe thought they were replying to a publication like Viz. Maybe they were just too shy shy to open up properly; bless them! After going through a minefield of spelling mistakes and awful grammar provided by Janis Joplin and Charlie Chaplin (so we were informed) we were not quite sure what to do with it. After inviting them back to do their homework again, which is something they declined to do, all we could do is completely reject it or present it here so you could make your own mind’s up about the band and see if you can possibly find it in yourselves to share their brand of juvenile japes. As for us, we will forever think of the band members who are not actually computer graphics as a right old pair of plums and never be able to listen to Satan’s Teddy Bear in quite the same way again. Oh and before anyone says we have no sense of humour, well we did listen to their albums in the first place!

AN: How did Satan’s Wrath first form? Was it something you’d wanted to do for a while?

SW: it was my father’s last wish before he died. He said: go on son make me proud.
He thought i was playing traditional Spanish music and samba though.

AN: How would you describe the band’s sound?

SW: Well samba with a little twist.

Samba

AN: What are your main inspirations musically?

SW: Dream Theater, Stratovarius and the last Helloween album.

AN: Why did you decide on such an overtly Satanic theme / image? Is that something you are seriously into?

SW: No we are all Christians in the band but when we recorded our first album we realised that it sounded a bit harsh. We had no choice but to do you know quite evil lyrics. I wasn’t sure because of my religious beliefs and I felt the pressure…
Then I asked the priest of the church i go every Sunday and he said its ok as long as i don’t believe in it.so it was cool…

AN: Your new album ‘Aeons Of Satan’s Reign’ has just been released – could you tell us about the writing and recording process of it? Did it differ to that of ‘Galloping Blasphemy’?

SW: Oh, after galloping we didn’t have any new ideas me and Stamos. We were really bad for many months.
In the end we decided to hire few people to write songs and Dave Grohl was one of them. I think they did a good job. I like it.
The production is not very clear to me where was it done cause the cheapest place we found was a studio in Antarctica with the name old.
No other details. We sent the material there and then they sent us the final product that you heard. I mean its good godammit!!!!

AN: The first album was a two man project with yourself and Stamos K, when & how did V, Costa & Nathan join the band?

SW: No we’re still two people but we felt it’s crap and we had to invent names as we did in the end. The pictures of these members in the album are computer graphics. It’s cheaper this way. We haven’t paid the computer graphics guy yet though.

AN: Can we expect a tour / festival dates soon? And what can we expect from a Satan’s Wrath stage show?

SW: We’re organising our own festival already It’s called Assfest, you know like Ozfest. We thought that the similarity to the name will be successful but we’re going to have very crappy bands so we shine in comparison. Our stage show will be exactly the same with the show that Kajagoogoo had in their 83 UK tour.

AN: Who would you most like to take out as a support band(s)?

SW: Uriah Heep

AN: Are there any new bands you recommend checking out?

SW: Yes, Deep Purple and Scorpions.

AN: The artwork on the new album is amazing and I’m lucky enough to own the ‘Galloping Blasphemy’ vinyl with the fold out sleeve – how much of an input do you have personally in the cover art and packaging?

SW: I haven’t seen it yet. Is it good? It was Nuclear Blast that did all the work.

Album Cover

AN: I understand you’re into horror movies in a big way, what are your five favourites and why?

SW: Chucky, Chucky2, Chucky3, Jason vs Freddy and Shark Tornado and why? Of course!!!! I love this album. Discharge are the definition of heavy metal

AN: What do you think of the current state of the genre?

SW: Of Gene? Gene Hoglan? The guy kicks ass!!!!! He always did!!!!!

AN: Many thanks for this interview, any final words for your growing legion of fans?

Legion of fans

SW: No, thank you my friend. Do we have a legion of fans? Jesus we’re going to be cold!!!! One is enough for the summer….
