Motown. The Motor City. The city that sent the US to War. Bankrupt (both morally and financially). Fallen giant. Home of regeneration and urban farming. Hopeful. Hockeytown.
Lots has been said about the City of Detroit and its surrounding Metropolis over the last few decades. Mainly negative. I love the place. I am proud to sport a Tigers Old English “D” on my forearm and have many friends and family members over there.
One of the few times this beleaguered Mid-Western area gets a break is when music is mentioned. From Tamla Motown to Eminem, The Stooges to the White Stripes and Black Dahlia Murder folks dig the Big D sound.
Which brings me to ShitFucker and their latest opus “Sucks Cocks in Hell” is their first full length since they burst from the bowels of hell (or some suburb) in 2005.
I was expecting some Anal Cunt style vulgarity or some porno grind with the moniker they have chosen. I was surprised to find a garage punk/thrash/black hybrid that brings to mind Abigail, Sabbat (Japan) and Venom. They make fast furious dirty poppy ditties that get the toes tapping and the head snapping. Yeah. That’s right I said poppy. Don’t worry kids that ain’t a swear word. I mean it in the way that Misfists and Ramones had pop grooves and put razorblades in their bubblegum pop.
Sex Dungeon is hilarious with its hijacking of “Black Diamond” by Kiss. They have stolen the chorus, kit and caboodle and they don’t care maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. Wooooooo hoooooooooo SEX DUNGEON! It works!
Acid Bath gives Jeffrey Dahmer summat to boogie to whilst he dismembers corpses but maintains a wry sense of humour. Following track Graveyard Revels reminds me of Darkthrone before they went Manowar on the last album (although the title makes me think of eating assorted chocolates in a cemetery………….got there??????).
This power trio are in the same pool as current faves of mine Satan’s Wrath but rather than Mercyful Fate and Bathory shirts these guys would be more suited with Sodom, RKL and MC5 ones. There is a definite Garage punk sound to their filthy metal as evidenced in Go to Hell/Rock n Roll Freaky Dude.
I Am the Devil sees our intrepid heroes get their Sabbath on complete with doomy intro. What follows is a mess though. What makes the other tracks work is their sense of urgency and I am The Devil just sounds like what your nana thinks Metal sounds like complete with some backward masking. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWN!
To stick with this motif Shitfucker have bookended their album with intro Satantisanity and outro Ytinastinatas . Yes the outro is the instrumental intro played backwards. Sigh (not the Japanese one)
I can take this silliness and their Nazi swastika style logo entitled the “Shiswastifa” as jolly japes with which I am sure they are meant. Such folly aside Suck Cocks in Hell contains 7 tracks of good n rotten rock and roll . I bet they love their mums really.
