Following hot off the heels and riding into battle, this Greek Heavy/Power metal band follow their debut album “Storming the Walls” with ‘Spirit Invictus’. I think with the vocal sound and phrasing and the powerful anthem driven heavy metal, it’s most probable to say they admire Manowar, especially relevant to a track like ‘Hall of a Thousand Storms’.
‘Triumpher’ is a touch more mid-tempo at its start, a grinding guitar assault that peppers your headbanging needs. There are epic group vocals with a touch more of the dark side in a blackened guitar section entwining itself every now and again, before heralding the warriors arrival. ‘Alexander’ gives, power during an introductory narrative, before hammering the song to a much heavier place. Some of the chords are a touch melodic black metal, a little Dissection in places I find. This then goes a touch more wayward back into the style of the remainder of the album. ‘Shores of Marathon’ provides a consistent stance and style. Warrior cry from the group vocals to the pounding metal music that follows. The vocal range is powerful, striving to bring the power to the track, which, is exactly what it does. ‘Spirit Invictus’ provides more spectacular power, very much in the vein of the kings of metal a-la ‘Triumph and Agony’ album. Yes, we are “bound for glory”. The light and shade of the guitar is typical and reminiscent of those warriors. Following the same pattern with more energy is ‘Arrival of the Avenger’. If you still have enough energy, the passion and spirit of battle is encapsulated on ‘Athena (1st Chapter)’ and goes hand in hand to victory with the album artwork.
You get the meaning of this review, if you adore this style, you will rejoice in this album. It has many hallmarks, does copy, but emulates a theme and style. This band would do very well in the entertainment stakes when playing to a live audience.
