I do like bands that have monikers for their band members and Italy’s Morbid Sacrifice is a four piece whose band members are called Witchfucker, Skineater, BloodSpiller and ThroatVomit. I’m pretty sure you know what this band is likely to subject you to and based on the release coming out on Godz Ov War you’d probably be right. Their blasphemous blackened death metal assault is short, to the point and wholly incendiary from start to finish.
The title track acts as an intro, being only a minute long and laced with distorted guitar work that leads the album into ‘Venomous Messiah’ where feedback acts like an ignition for the ensuing devastation that is vomited forth. I’ve seen comparisons of this act to Archgoat and Beherit which are definitely true but the way the band uses sewerage like death metal riffing and bass annihilation my thoughts drifted to Autopsy but also Undergang and Cardiac Arrest to some degree. There is a healthy unholy rabidity to this album, it feels like it is stalking you and dismembering you, then sticking the remains in a vat of caustic soda just in case the former didn’t work.
The album is short and noticeably there is a lack of lead work which ensures every song sticks to the point, there’s no extraneous deviations as ‘Bloodstained Salvation’ has an Autopsy like bass introduction that feeds into its grisly riff. I’d even say the album has some crust like tendencies as the song stamps on the gas to release half blasted mayhem and guttural vocal emanations. Smashing into your cranium is ‘Cremation Ritual’, the filth riddled blasted affair is saturated with carnage as the awesome riff break punctures your lungs with ease.
The bands cover of Sodom’s ‘Conjuration’ is what you’d expect, it sticks with the melody of the original but removes the solo section for a song over a minute shorter than the original without any decrease in how good it is. Returning to blackened fury is ‘Serpent Of Abomination’, the songs twanging bass line is old school death personified as it hurtles without mercy headlong into miasmic sonic vitriol. I really liked the dip in tempo too, it gives the song focus and allows it to build back again with ever evolving wrath that blends nicely with ‘Bleed For The Horned King’ which wields a slower riff and crushing double bass salvo. The song quickly morphs into the band trademark filth drenched mauling as the release closes with ‘Alucarda’, a two minute tortured soundscape of noises, vocals and eeriness.
24 minutes of unparalleled savagery from Morbid Sacrifice, one that fans of black metal, death metal and even war metal should be checking out.
