This is the Third album from a black thrash band from Brazil/Germany, a truly international affair. The demonic artwork on the album cover is simple but effective, you know what you are going to hear without reading any description from myself or anyone else for that matter.
‘The Grand Bewitchment’ has a really nice drum pattern at the start, I really enjoy this and the main guitar has that “gallop” which I do like as some may know of me. It may be the first real track, and it is a stand out approach compared to the remainder of the album. Of course, I didn’t realise I was listening in shuffle mode so I heard this a lot later than intended! ‘The Cult of Slaughtered Lambs’ would make Lemmy proud, but ‘Sange de drac’ (solo performed by Andy LaRocque) is the track where the rock n roll figures. Total Motorhead banging. ‘Tempel der Bestie’ has some Venom heritage, but its ‘Die Hundin von Buchewald’ that really unleashes the metal punk power.
‘Dahmer’s Freezer’ is augmented black thrash, Kreator colliding with Slayer, vocally like that of Obituary/Stuck Mojo in places (vocal tone and expression related!). Once we get going, embrace the Venom-isms, there is a nice expressive break of momentum towards the end of this track too, which is a nice touch in the arrangement I found. ‘Alcoholic Mosh’ (Sextrash cover) is an awesome track, this version is pretty special, it doesn’t necessarily conform to your traditional “mosh” party formula, even if you are hammered, that is until you get to the mid-point of the song, that is, prior to engaging hyper drive once more.
The formula is pretty standard for the sub-genre, it’s enjoyable and sounds very well produced (Andy LaRocque). Satanic representation that’s reliable and comforting, not ground breaking, but I am sure this was never the intention. If you get the chance, get this.
