This is German Stoner/Fuzz, it’s the bands second album. It’s been over 20 years since I have personally dipped or “tripped” seriously into this field, so its touch of a memory lane thing for me this album.
‘Cards of Evil’ has a bit of wah-wah pedal groove going on with the very emotive vocal tone. There’s a lot to immerse yourself in for lovers of this style, for me its sounds like the older Scandinavian bands. The track builds then suddenly falls of a cliff. This is quite a dramatic turn of events. But, it works and the resulting atmosphere captured is pretty special. ‘Doctrine’ is very much a trippy summer sloth-a-thon, it reminds me very much of the album ‘Delmar’ by Natas (or Los Natos). ‘Luna’ is much more “stoner”, reminiscent of the Desert scene bands of the late 90’s. ‘The Devil Told Me So’ is more sinister, it adds a Hammond organ which figures with the very special artwork, its spellbinding mysticism.
I don’t see the point in delving further, the story is similar for all the tracks, the vocals I like, the instrumental pieces relax and expulses a sense of “chill”. It’s a nice ride for the end of summer, that’s for sure.
You won’t fail to nod your head, and you don’t need chemicals to add to the feel of the release. Wolf Prayer are a great find for me, the style is very much dependant on your mood, I wouldn’t say this will hit the mark at every point in your daily life, but where appropriate, it’s a rather enjoyable trip.
