Well, while not perhaps the first band to merge the ferocious d-beat energy of Discharge with the all-conquering guitar sound of the HM-2 pedal, Industrial Puke do have both an amusing name, and a knack for not outstaying their welcome. Add to this that they are Swedish, the lads do appear to have a particular love for punked-up metal, and that’s not a bad thing.

With catchy opener “Mental Taxation” as their manifesto, the whole album follows a similar path. This is urgent, insistent metal that takes a good couple of riffs, gives them a right good workout then exits stage right. There are ten tracks here, and none of them – not a single one – breaks the three minute barrier. This is rapidly deployed, rapidly played stuff. Actually, it very happily brought to mind Disfear, which is a great comparison to have.

Now, I will confess to not actually being a fan of the band you may have in your head at this point – Nails. It’s just that I find their stuff to be pretty dull. Not so Industrial Puke; hearing the driving riffing that drives absolute banger “Hell is in Hello”, and you know that this is a record that’s generally just preoccupied with giving your ears something to do. It’s not averse to dropping hooks. Vocally, the singing is a hoarse shout rather than a distorted death metal bellow, though that just accentuates the hardcore pedigree.

Then, just like that, it’s over. You’ll want to play it again, and I guarantee that a couple of the riffs on this bad boy are going to be hummed by you over and over again. Short, sharp shock indeed.
