Established in 2014 and tried and tested by industry professionals with a long track record of running events, the annual Incineration Festival is a key date in the UK extreme metal scene. Taking place in Camden London on Sat 13th May at 4 venues a stone’s throw from each other it takes in bands playing at The Electric Ballroom, The Underworld, The Black Heart and The Dev. Although some running around and knocking over slow-walking tourists like skittles is involved here is a brief look at what to expect on the day.
Stage Times (Revised)
The Electric Ballroom
Co headlining are Psychedelic Norse Prog Vikings Enslaved who will be playing tracks from latest release Heimdal along with some classics from their storied career. Hot on heels are Swedish Panzer division Marduk known for their uncompromising war-torn blackened assault. Expect little in the way of mercy here. A hail of bullets is also likely from deathly Dutch destroyers Asphyx, likely to put the audience on The Rack and then some.
Returning to the capital and always well received Rotting Christ will put an epic Hellenic slant on things with a powerful and dark set whilst Celeste from France will mesmerise with their spell-binding brew of mesmerising blackened sludge. Gaining a huge amount of praise for debut album ‘Serpent & Spirit’ it’s only right for home-grown talent in the way of Urne open up proceedings on the biggest of the festival’s stages.
The Underworld
USDM with a brutal edge sees Suffocation co-headlining The Underworld and no doubt stage-divers will be flinging themselves like ‘The Pinnacle Of Bedlam’ itself. Something a bit calmer but no doubt narratively just as tumultuous TJ Cowgill returns with King Dude bringing some Bourbon-soaked blues and folk arcana and a set where literally anything could happen.
All out devilry from Profanatica is bound to be a draw for the irreligious and the USBM stalwarts are guaranteed to bring plenty of “Disgusting Blasphemies Against God.” Similarly, Lamp Of Murmuur may be relative newcomers but on the strength of recent album ‘Saturnian Bloodstorm’ will be no less an uncompromising force. Tour-mates the mysterious Devil Master will play their debut London show and unleash a cape of bats with their Satanic spitting blackened punk but before all this something cheerful with a slamming colourful and rubber dolphin molesting hoedown from mosh monsters Party Cannon.
The Black Heart
Spirits are known to flow in The Black Heart and it’s apt that Portland black thrashing maniacs Spirit Possession kick up a hellish headlining set. Prior to them, the Putrid Blade of Antichrist Siege Machine is poised to strike. Expect hostility to be unleashed by their scabrous daggers of death. Portuguese barbarians Necrobode unleash their ‘Metal Negro Da Morte’ here but don’t expect them to bring the sunshine.
Sharing members and delivering deathly carnage from France and the UK we have the double assault of Monument Of Misanthropy and De Profundis. Spider God are likely to stretch the confines of the stage with their Oriental tinged blackened thrash shred and maybe throw in a pop cover or two whilst openers Stahlsarg make a wlcome return with newly expanded line-up.
The Dev
A busy 9 band bill at the Dev sees everything from brutal death to witchy doom and a dashing of crust for good measure. Discover something new perhaps as you pop in for the following acts. Vision Of Disfigurement, Witchsorrow, 10 Plagues, Cryptworm, Andracca, Crimson Throne, Wolfbastard, Veiled And Unburied.
Pre Show
If all of that is not enough visitors will be entertained by a pre-show at the Black Heart on the evening beforehand and at the early bird price of just £6.66 a ticket. Shemustburn headline although hopefully won’t build a pyre on the stage with their grimoire of symphonic deathcore. Supports are two UK BM acts Sidious and Vehement who should both be on your radar by now.
