Attractive Chaos are the latest vehicle for Vocalist Emma Elvaston and Guitarist Clement Botz, who some might know from their previous bands Evolvent and Beneath My Sins (though as far as I’m aware Beneath My Sins are still a going concern). In Attractive Chaos the French duo have teamed up with Italian guitarist (playing bass here) Pier Paulo Lunesu of Even Flow fame. The tactic of the band seems to be to drip-feed their music into the world, a single here and there, make a few ripples and follow them up now with a three track EP.
Though clearly Symphonic Metal, Attractive Chaos are keen to sculpt their own sound, which is accessible, but utilising occasional progressive elements both in the music and the vocals. Which display a more experimental side on their journey to a memorable chorus or catchy hook. First track ‘Before You Hit The Ground’ is a prime example, very much guitar-driven, it’s choppy instrumentation is varied and interesting and the vocals follow suit, maybe coming across as a little over ambitious occasionally, but striving for an individuality that has to be applauded and enjoyed.
The following tracks ‘Won & Lost’ and ‘Come To Me’, reel the experimentation in a touch, with each song having the room to still impress, but lose none of their interest. The tempos are nicely varied throughout but always keep the momentum and energy up. With the intelligent arrangements a constant on all three tracks this is an EP that is clearly just the beginning for the band. It has to be remembered that the tracks on here are designed to grab attention from not only the public but prospective record labels and Attractive Chaos come across immediately as a band who have the talent musically, vocally and in songwriting ability to become something different and exciting.
