A very quick debut album from a Colombian trio who have relocated to London. So quick in fact that at twenty-one minutes I’d be tempted to call it an EP. Imperial Execration and their three members are originally from Bogata in the northern part of South America, and all three have a rich history of Extreme Metal in their own country. Now in London, the debut Imperial Execration release ‘Commanding Satan’s Crusades’ has been unleashed on CD by Comatose Music.

I’ve reviewed Ruben (Drums) and Eduardo’s (Guitar/Bass) Black Metal project Ataud previously and so I know the high standard both men set when creating music. It’s pleasing to see their penchant for darkness and anti-religious savagery has continued into their new Brutal Death Metal project, but from there the contrast between the two projects is vast. Whilst Ataud is a sleek, polished slice of Black Metal, Imperial Execration is gritty, grimy and caked in the filth and detritus of an urban hellhole.

Joined by Oscar Macias whose growled violence and bowel churning spite is the perfect front for this band, Imperial Execration have put together seven short tracks of murky chugging aggression. The drumming style of Ruben Jaramillo is punishing, pummelling and predatory; keeping up a constant unremorseful barrage of bestial beats. Meanwhile, the unrelenting bass tones and primitive oozing guitar leads from Eduardo Camargo keep this album fuelled with moments to headbang to, as well as a brutal amount of cutting, barbaric extremity.

It’s great to see these guys so active as they create truly memorable music of varying styles. This is a compelling look into their more savage nature.
